Hi to all, after a recent post by myself I have had another fault on my mpx, this time the ring tone will go off and on during a call ( someone calling ) I got to phones 4 you and was told that I was just over their 30 day replacement scheme  and that I should contact motorola on monday, they say that I might be offered a V600, had a quick look but seems inferior to the mpx200.... so

1 ) Has anyone here heard of the recall ?

2 ) Is there a decent substitute ?

3 ) Is the mpx300 available yet ??

Thanks for any feedback

1) I haven't head of a recall - and I only got my MPx200 from Orange this week.

2) I don't think so, although it's a matter of personal opinion - the E200 for example has the 2003 OS but possibly more problems.

3) I think that the MPx220 is the next one to be released by Moto - and that's not out yet.

What recall? i.e. there is none

2 ) Is there a decent substitute ?

If you can call the E200 decent :D

3 ) Is the mpx300 available yet ??

No such thing. The newer version, as Mattkirby has mentioned, is the MPx220. Release dates are speculative at the moment.

My partner owns a Motorola (I'm an SPV user myself!), but she's had the phone freeze permanently on the "HelloMoto" screen twice.

The first time 'round, they replaced the phone. This time (this weekend in fact), Orange Customer Support have said that they're no longer issuing the MPx200, and that they'll replace with a Nokia 6600.

My partner's not a fan of Nokia phones (and really hates the 6600 - she had a look at it over the weekend), and would prefer a Motorola unit like the V600; she's been told, however, that it's the Nokia, or a "reconditioned" MPx200. She's been given Motorola's number to speak to them, seeing as how the phone is still under warranty; but suffice to say she's not a happy camper.

bopdude,

I suggest that you return toPhones 4U and inform them of the law. Your warranty is with them as the retailer and not Motorola. The retailer is responsible for the quality of goods they sell and regarless of any small print in their terms and conditions, you have your rights under the law. I.e. they cannot put conditions in which take away your legal rights as any such conditions are not worth the paper they are printed on! Any warranty with Motorola is IN ADDITION to your rights under a) the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002. The latter states:-

You have the legal right to choose repair, replacement, partial or full refund, or compensation if a fault appears within 6 years (5 years in Scotland) and it is reasonable for goods to last that long

Goods must be faulty at the time of purchase and in the first 6 months the onus is on the retailer to prove the goods were not faulty

After 6 months the onus is on th purchser to prove the goods were faulty.

If you speak to your local trading standards people, they will advise you. If Phones 4 U want to send the phone to Motorola for repair, they can do, but you should press hard for a loan phone supplied by them at no cost for the period when you are without your phone.

Be reasonable with them, don't shout but be firm. If need be state that you will be speaking to the local Trading Standards department about the matter.....

I've just had a similar situation with a digital camera worth nearly a grand. The retailer tried to tell me that they'd have to send it back to the manufacturers for 6 weeks for a repair as it was over 3 weeks since I'd purchased it. After some discussion on the above points, they replaced it!

Good luck,

gohunter

I work in a phones4u, the policy is if it develops a fault not caused by the customer within 28 days, we do a like for like exchange. Outside of that, we can only send it off to be repaired at our repair centre.

My mpx's sim retaining clips snapped (happens alot apparently) but I sorted this by wedging some paper under the battery. My phone works fine tho :D

There was a recall of mpx's tho, we had 2 orange and 4 gsm's at my store, then the recalled them all...

bit weird that

Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for all the replys from you guys. Okay heres an update ( from my side at least )

I rang Motorola on Monday, told them of the faults and they said that they knew of the one regarding the sim card error. They said it was down to a know software problem and that I should do a reset, I was away at the time so was reluctant to do so.

The fault with the caller ringtone has gotten worse to the point that it may as well not ring at all

Now it has decided not to allow me to open any MMS messages, am going to look at it just now.

I have been on to phones4you and they have said if I come down they will sort something out for me, I will update this after and let you know how I got on.

As for the MPX300 heres a link with some pic's mpx300

the mpx300 phone you mention has been announced by motorola as simply the MPX. it is not a Smartphone but a pocket pc running Windows Moblile phone edition.

And it rocks :D/

With nice size and features this is on my most wanted list.

A thing about the clips that hold the SIM on the MPX, the newer version of the MPX has a solid clip. The older one has to little prong clips that look like fangs. So I am guessing the solid one does not break as easy but I have never had problems with either.
