SPV E200 with ROM Update or SPV E200 without, or MPx200?

Hi,

I'm seriously thinking of getting a smartphone but can't make up my mind whether I should get one, and if I should, which model to go for.

In my research on this and other boards I have been very much put off! I've heard so many problems with the E200 (with and without the ROM update) and with the MPx200 that I wonder if smartphones are actually worth risking just yet....?

Anyone care to suggest what I do?

Thanks

Blakey

E200 but don't apply the upgrade.

I'm a very happy customer :D

Yep, I agree with Stu, I applied the update which was a pile of poo :?

I then swapped my phone with my Dad's E200 (not updated) and I'm happy again :D Once you apply the update, you realise that the original ROM wasn't all that bad

It's improved as long as you don't mine not being able to hear/be heard

And you don't want to use Messenger properly.

And you don't want to use it very much for downloading emails, as it can no longer stay connected to GPRS

And you don't mind your'e phone locking up once in a while :?

And you don't mind you're SD card "disappearing" occassionally :?

And you're happy to get rid of certain makes of SD cards, and buy another make to notice any improvement in battery life

Okay, so you guys all seem to think the E200 is the one to go for. I just popped down to my local phone shop and tried both the phones out. I much prefer the Moto in terms of form factor. It is smaller, and feels better in my hands.

Which is more reliable?

Cheers

I can still hear and be heard fine on my updated E200.

The update didn't affect my Messenger, worked fine before, still does.

I did prefer being able to stay connected on GPRS but having had the original SPV I'm used to not being able to.

My phone hasn't locked up since I installed the uk keyboard update over a week ago (apparently it has a fix in it?) and had only locked up a couple of times before that.

My SD card has disappeared only once since I updated (over a month ago with average to high usuage) and just needed to be taken out and put back in.

Can't comment on SD card makes. Never tried anything but a sandisk.

The updated E200 is the best Smartphone available in the UK today.

Messenger works fine before and after the update, but since the update, GPRS disconnects after a few minutes, rendering Messenger not very useable :?

As for the other issues, I am not alone, so I guess they are real :!:

I've got 2 SPV E200's, one has the updated ROM, and one has not, which means I can do direct comparisons side by side, and trust me, the one with the updated ROM stays in the drawer

If you upgraded to the new ROM is there a way to return it to the previous one, or are you stuck with it forever!?
