Guest maroon4ever Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 My last 3 bills from Orange have been far higher since i got an E200 due to the large amounts of megabytes i'm using through my WAP access. I only want to look at WAP pages, not Internet pages and supposedly 1mb is equal to 1200 WAP pages, but on my last bill i was billed for 25 mb. How can this be, if i'm only looking at WAP pages. I've contacted Orange on several occasions about this, but they have been absolutely useless in solving the problem and refuse to refund my money. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Guest shadamehr Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Er, chipping in with the obvious question, but they ARE WAP sites you are visiting/browsing on the phone, and not HTML/WEB sites? The phone will happily let you view either. If you are visiting lots of INTERNET sites on the phone, then your GPRS usage could indeed be really high. This is just ONE possibility remember though - I am not saying its definately your problem. But are you SURE that they are WAP pages you are viewing, and not normal web pages? As the phone can happily use both, the onus is on YOU, to monitor your own GPRS usage. Please forgive and disregard, if there is a good reason why this does not apply mate.
Guest maroon4ever Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 I only visit pages on Orange World which i assume are WAP pages. Is this wrong, because i can't tell the difference apart from with Web pages you can scroll left and right as well. Please excuse my ignorance on all this.
Guest martin Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 I assume 1200 WAP sites per 1MB means (text based) WML pages 1024 Kbytes/1200 = 0.85 Kbyes per page. Goto http://www.google.com/wml from your SPV as an example Like everything else WAP capabilities are improving and many WAP sites now have larger and more complex pages containing pictures etc. These types of pages will be accessable from later phone models with WAP 1.21 and WAP 2.0 software. You could always load a trial of the all-locations GPRS counter to give you an idea of GPRS usage in the real word :D http://www.all-locations.com/
Guest maroon4ever Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Thanks very much for the reply. I obviously been accessing WAP pages that use up more data than the WAP pages in your first example. This is not made clear though by Orange and i've lost count of the amount of people i've spoken to at Orange who haven't been able to tell me this is the reason for my high bills. Thanks again.
Guest martin Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 BTW If you do a google search on your PC for "WAP directory", you should find sites that list hundreds of (text only) WAP sites. These are made up of WML pages for the original WAP 1.0/1.1 phones and then you might see your 1200 pages :D Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest benutopia Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 Not that this will really help, but u can turn off pictures in your options
