Orange and CSD anyone?

Has anyone managed to get this working? I've had GPRS and MMC disabled to simplify things (too expensive). Also tried both original and latest Orange UK update.

I've even created a new dial up profile with my home number to call and it doesn't ring (though I know my e200 is doing something because it makes that buzzing noise whilst trying to connect). Error is "Unable to place call." with each attempt.

Called Orange CS and spoke to a very helpful bloke, who said, after conferring with his colleague, that CSD doesn't work on the E200! Just to prove it he tried it with his own e200 and said that he got the same error as me.

Errr...?

Really  I don't have an E200 but I find that surprising :?

Are you trying to access via a CSD WAP dialup or a CSD dialup to an ISP ?

I'm not so sure that CSD connections would be saving you money :?

Remember that you are charged by call time so make sure you know the cost per minute at both peak and off peak times for each connection type.

For CSD WAP

Create Dialup

Description: Orange CSD WAP

Connects to : The internet

Country code: 44

Dialling code: 7973

Phone number: 100500

Username: Orange

Password: Multimedia

Create proxy.

Connects from: The internet

Connect to: WAP network

Proxy: 192.168.71:35:8080

Type: HTTP

Data conenctions

WAP connection: Orange CSD WAP

Internet Explorer

Untick 'Auto detect settings' and make 'Select network: WAP network'.

You could also add an ISP dialup to the Internet connection.

There are a several to choose from and I tested with http://www.freeuk.com/config/ on the SPV

First click free internet access and register.

Create Dialup

Description: Free Uk

Connects to : The internet

Country code: 44

Dialling code: 845

Phone number: 0790007

Username: (your ISP username)

Password: (your ISP password)

Data conenctions

Internet connection : Free UK

Internet Explorer

Untick 'Auto detect settings' and make 'Select network: The Internet'

Hope this helps :D

So did the man from Orange CS! What surprised me more is the fact that no one else with an e200 has replied "it works for me" or "oh - I've just tried it and you're right: it doesn't work!". :? It only takes a minute to test after all.

Tried both plus dial up to my home phone number. None of them work. Also tried the conneciton options you listed. And four other whilst on the phone to Orange CS.

You could also add an ISP dialup to the Internet connection.

This one didn't work either. Thanks for the reply though. :D

It's hard to tell whether it''s the SIM or the E200 :?

(both WAP and ISP dialups work on my SPV/SIM)

Did Orange CS confirm that GSM data service is active for your SIM and have you tried a dialup using your SIM in another phone ?

Mine doesn't work on CSD either (E200) It loads then I get a blank screen with "Untitled" at the top. Doesn't do any more than that! Didn't work pre or post update.

.

Was that WAP CSD ?

What address were you trying to connect to ?

Is your proxy set to the following ?

Connects from: The internet

Connect to: WAP network

Proxy: 192.168.71:35:8080

Type: HTTP

Indeed they did: in fact the not only confirmed it, they then sent down to the SIM all the dial up updates again just to be sure.

From your questions about the WAP settings, I get the impression that you think that it wouldn't even make my phone ring if I got the WAP / ISP settings wrong? :?

I don't think your phone will ring when dialling it via a data call ( it's not part of the data call setup).

I'm really confused now. :? My understanding of data calls was that the call gets routed by Orange to the mobile switching centre, which recognises the data call and sends it to a "modem" in the MSC that actually does the modulation/demodulation?

So, I should be able to dial the modem in my office for example from my mobile phone?

I did try a different approach of using Win2K to connect to the "SSA Smartphone" via bluetooth and seeing what that does. Again, the phone makes the usual buzzing noise to indicate it's doing something, but then Win2K says "There was no answer". In case you ask, I tried every number (and combination of country codes, missing zeros, plusses etc etc, known to man! :D )

Curious...

Edit: I've since used Hyperterm to connect to the com port that maps to the Bluetooth Modem and issued AT commands directly to the E200. For every number I dial, "No Carrier" comes back, though the phose is definitely doing "something" whilst trying to dial.

Hi All,

Got it working with Martins proxy settings and some alterations to my data connection settings.

In Data Connection under Internet Connection, I set to Orange CSD WAP, under WAP connection I set to Orange CSD WAP.

In the Edit data connections under Orange WAP proxy, set to Connects from - The Internet Connects to - WAP Network and added :35:8080 to the end of the setting in Proxy (name:port).

Works OK now but it's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow. I'll be sticking to GPRS.

Cheers tho.

jbrare: Thanks for confirming that it does work in principle. :D I guess I have a fault with my phone or SIM? ;) Can I ask:

1. Have you upgraded to the latest Orange Update?

2. Did you receive a new SIM about 2 months ago? I did and I had to register it. IIRC, it didn't work before getting the new SIM, but it's just a thought.

Fixed!

In the end I decided to do a Hard Reset and set up the various setting again for what seemed like the thousandth time. However, this time it connected! No idea why a hard reset did the trick, but might be of use to other people to know that? :?
