Guest rrohan Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 When I get an incoming call, the number shows up, but not the associated name in my contacts list. Similarly, though I tried to associate ring tones with certain callers, they do not work, and only the standard ring tone rings. Motorola customer support said it's a problem with memory being taken up by the contact list from Outlook, and that they're trying to fix the problem. Do others have a similar problem? Any solutions you're aware of?

Guest sophist Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 It's actually a problem with the speed of the processor. If you have uploaded a lot of numbers to your contacts file from Outlook, the software has to trawl through all of them in order to find the matching name / ringtone. In most cases, it is unable to do this until the phone has rung numerous times and has probably switched to voicemail. You should find however, that if you receive a call from someone at the top of your contacts list it will display the caller's ID (it works for me up to the letter C!). Not sure about the ringtones though.
Guest MadSci Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 Yup, I inquired about this earlier and relayed a long conversation with a software vendor that sold me a program that claimed to "Fix" the Caller ID bug. Guess what, I still don't have the caller Photo ID, either original or the one I paid for, running. This is really intolerable. Not this issue specifically, I can live without it, but both Motorola and ATT had to know about this issue before they put the things on the market. Don't tell me they only tested their Windows Outlook-compatible phone with three entries in the Contact list! Unfortunately, it's just another example of the "Bait and switch" marketing that is de rigeur in the cellular world. The last Nokia I had also failed to perform as advertised. Caveat emptor and Trust No-One! PS: If anyone at Motorola would like to step up and apologize for this fiasco, that would be nice. Perhaps they would rebate all of us who bought this Pig-in-a-poke, or at least fix the damn thing! Any takers? MadSci

How do I get this application? Does your Caller ID now bring up the names? Do you have a large contact list? Another poster below is experiencing a similar problem due to the size of his contact list, which seems to be consistent with what Motorola has told me. That's a new one :)
