Keypad backlight?

So I'm wondering about the light behind the keypad, not the LCD.

I currently have my LCD backlight set to never - it doesn't consume that much battery power so I have it set that way so I can always read it. However, the keypad backlight goes out within 30 seconds, and nothing in the settings of the phone or power management point to changing the length the keypad light is on. Is it hidden deep somewhere, or is there a registry fix for it? Maybe a small app of some sorts?
