have tried to install the Orange update on my XPhone, without success.

tried first directly after connecting with Activesync, and then the 2nd time by going to the 'canary' screen. Each time get told that the ROM is not suitable (or words to that meaning).

anytips on how to install the update, as I would really like to get the serial profile working on BT.

thanks

I flashed mine (O2 Xphone, bought Jan 2004) using these steps:

1. Off the phone. Take out the battery. Wait say 30 secs.

2. Put the battery back in.

3. Go into bootloader mode. (Press and hold the REC button, then power up).

4. You should see the words "Press any key to enter bootloader mode". Do so.

5. You'll see a 3 colour screen with the words serial at the bottom left.

6. Plug in the activesync cable (the other end should already be attached to your PC's USB port). The word Serial should change to USB now.

7. Run the ROM installer program.

8. Follow the instrcutions.

9. Wait, it took roughly around 10mins on mine.

10. It will reboot automatically.

Did you have a SD card inserted while updating ? It must be there.

No I didn't, will try again, one more time. This is wierd cos many people have upgraded. Many say take out the SD Card.

nothing to lose cos already i have a unit that has been hard reset.

well i had the same problem. Tried many many times. Then it so happen that i screwed up some of the apps and had to send to the o2 service centre to reflash the o2 rom.

Then, after that went i reached home just thought of trying and it works!!. Dunno what the reflash of the O2 ROM did. Now everthing is Orange :)

Prior to this i keep receiving Incompatible Image messages.. Hope this help. Try going to the service centre to reflash the o2 ROM with some crappy excuse that you are not able to play the O2 game or whatever.

But do bear in mind that your warranty will be void. For me i flash as an interin solution before o2 release thiers. Hopefully wont get an incompatible image when i try to go back to O2 upgrade.

OK finally I decided to see what happens if I switch from my PC to my wifes PC. For some reason it WORKS, I now have an Orange System running, I am still SIM unlocked and APP Unlocked so it is a good update for me.

@Sam71 = same here, this is only a temp solution until the real O2 update exists.

cheers to all

dt_bogor, I just got an O2 Xphone and am reading all I can about it. Wondered what made you decide that the Orange rom would be better. What does it do?

@ dparson,

the reason for switching the ROM was so that I had SERIAL profile in the X-phone. I need that as I want to use with BT Activesync as well as with my iPAQ, since this time I have found that the Orange has some issues. I still have a problem with the iPAQ2210 (but I just read some tips to hopefully sort that out) and now I can sync my laptop+xphone via BT. battery life has improved

so actually not so bad, there are some issues with SD card going to sleep, but only affects me with the games so before my son tries to play, I remove and insert again.

hope this answers you question
