Guest millbrook Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 Hi all, Can anyone give me a clue here ! I have sim-unlocked, de-certed etc and recently got GPRS enabled and thanks to the help of Martin on here got this all working fine after manually editing the settings and chaing up Orange with the Genabling of GPRS. Decided now to give Orange's picture messaging a go but can't get the damned thing to work in or out  I went up the local Orange shop, spent almosat 1/2 hour in the shop on the phone talking through all the settings but STILL no joy and set no differently anyway than already had set :-{ I am now awaiting a tech. call from Orange. One thing I have noticed is that no matter what you enter for the password part of GPRS or MMS the phone still automatically resets it back to ?????? 16 characters long ! I have tried several times now to keep it to "Multimedia" but it still resets. Is this something that happens to everyone else or is the problem ? I can't see any logical reason for the phone to do this. Orange shop man tried to see if I could recieve but his message came up as "Downloading" then "Transfer Failed". Going the other way, my message c/w photo and sound goes happily to GPRS stage and then "Sending MMS" and starting to send before then aborting and giving error message and placing file into Draft box. Sim is PAYG Orange. HELP !
Guest martin Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 You don't need a password for MMS over GPRS. If you get connecting but not sending for MMS try this. 1. Delete all existing dialup and GPRS connections which has 'Connects to: MMS connection'. 2. Create new GPRS connection for MMS and give it a new description. Description: O MMS, Connects to: MMS connection, Access point: orangemms 3. Goto Accessories-MMS setup and set first field to O MMS, IP: 192.168.224.10, Port: 9201, MMSC: http//mms .orange.co.uk If it's the registry data thats the problem this should sort it out. Guest millbrook Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Cheers Martin. Big thank you again - be owing you a few beers at this rate  Will give that a try a bit later on. I did wonder about the password bit but the Orange support wanted it in. Still don't understand why though it chages the entry of Multimedia to 16 characters from that entered. Hmmmmmmm. Fingers crossed
Guest martin Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 millbrook. I did wonder about the password bit but the Orange support wanted it in.Did they :) The Username and password (Orange/Multimedia) is only used to access the WAP dialup. The Orange GPRS network will ignore the username and password if inserted. Still don't understand why though it chages the entry of Multimedia to 16 characters from that entered. Hmmmmmmm Regardless of what you put in the password field it will change to **************** If you have have a look in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Comm/RasBook the connections show the username as normal (text) but the password is coded data (to allow secure transfer across the network)
Guest millbrook Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Hi Martin, OK, here goes.... :? ...phone setup as is. Guest millbrook Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Hi Martin, Just a quick note to say decided to delete both "Orange Reset GPRS". Just about to try MMS again so fingers crossed !
Guest martin Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Hi millbrook I think I would change a couple of things Delete one of the proxys and change the other one to Internet, WAP Network, 192.168.71.35:8080,HTTP, blank, blank Delete both MMS connections and create a new O MMS (basically to try it with new MMS setup data) Orange O MMS orangemms blank blank 0.0.0.0. 0.0.0.0. blank MMS setup: O MMS 192.168.224.10 9201 http://mms.orange.co.uk Message EXp Max No boxes ticked MMS Download - Auto let us know if it works
Guest millbrook Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Ok, getting there. :) Can now send BUT, person receiving end (also with same phone and set-up but with Orange World) does not get the picture etc. all they get is a txt message stating go and view at "http........" on oranges website and then the message password etc. How do I get the picture direct onto their phone (or is this dependant upon phone etc) ? Note: Their phone is also set up under data connections as: Internet - orange GPRS Work - None available ( he tends to connect to everything via Active Sync and online PC) Wap - Orange GPRS Sec Wap. - None. hope that makes sense. Thanks
Guest martin Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Ok, getting there :) Try sending an MMS to yourself and to an Email address. See if the MMS (picture) gets through OK
Guest millbrook Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 :)/ Thankyou !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are a saint ! Got the picture, text and sound message on phone....just waiting for the e-mail now. :lol:/ 8)
Guest millbrook Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 O/H is peeved now 'cos he can't get it to work on his phone :) Had a quick look as his phone doesn not have the "email option" active. It is greyed out. I know I vaguely remember finding this somewhere on my phone and think I disable PC email. I assume this is why his Data settings are different in that WORK is set to none available and no other options either :?:
Guest martin Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 O/H is peeved now 'cos he can't get it to work on his phone Hee Hee  Errr I mean, that's very sad  I do remember a similar thing with the E-mail blanked out on the SPV. I think I had to connect the phone to the USB and then disable the inbox synch in the PC activesynch settings - or something like that.
Guest millbrook Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Hmmm. Will check that out later tonight but o/h thinks he ahs already done this via the USB connection and PC. I know I got a message come up when I was trying to get the PM to work and phone was defineitly not connected to anything at the time. I think it read somehting like "need to disable PC mail ....." and the recommended action was to connect to Syn but just said go ahead by pressing the "next" option and then this was acitvated. Can't think for the life of me now how I got to than point. #-o
Guest millbrook Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 PS Excuse my dyslexic spelling ! Been a long day today.
