Hi, I have just had some bad luck trying to downgrade my SPV from Orange 1.6 to i-Mate 1.5 following Qman's instructions.

It all went bad when my phone stopped at 10% during the 1st erase procedure. Since then I have not been able to get it to do anything other than show the Canary screen.

I have downloaded bootloader 0.98 tried using WinHex to copy it to a SD Card but the phone does not seem to recognise it.

I even used USBTerm but it said that my card is invalid and now it will not connect at all and just says "Cannot open terminal handle!"

If anyone reading this knows a way that I can get it to work again, any help would be appreciated.

Best bet from what I am reading is to find someone with a SPV with bootloader 0.98 on it and copy it to a SD Card. So if there is anyone out there who lives in Auckland, New Zealand and can help me that would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site :)

As long as you can get to the canary screen your phone is repairable. You do not need bootloader 0.98 to repair the phone and also unless you are confident with winhex I would

advise against playing with it as you can cause more damage.

Here is what you need to do.

Start the phone in the canary screen and connect it to your PC.

Reboot your PC and disable any firewalls you may have.

Now re-run the update, it should now install.

Hi, Thanks for the tip, maybe I should have gone into more detail.

I have tried several times to get the update to run and if I use CaUpgradeUt.exe I get "ERROR 102: IMAGE FILE CHECKSUM ERROR, The ROM image file to be used for the update is corrupt. Download the correct ROM update and try again. I have downloaded all the updates several times and I still get this messgae regardless of which one I use, so assume it must be the ROM on the phone that is damaged.

If I use TARUU.exe to tun the update then I get to the 10% mark and then it stops....

Any other thoughts?????

I also tried running the update in a different USB port and on another PC with the same results....

Are you actually running the CAUpgradeUT.exe from the ruu

folder instead of running the update as a complete file?

Have you actually tried running the update the way I discribe

above?

If you have then your next step is to run the update on another PC.

The way above always works for me with the reboot of the pc being the key to it working.

WooooooHoooooo, your procedure worked.

I am sure I read to reboot the computer while the phone is on and connected somewhere else in this forum and also sure I tried it but it worked this time. (Had to use TARUU.exe instead of CaUpgradeUt.exe for the 1.50.8.6 update part)

Now up and running with i-mate 1.50.8.6 and it does seem faster changing menus than Orange 1.6.1.10.

Thanks so much "awarner". I have only had my phone for a couple of weeks and have been without it for 5 days now so really glad to get it back.

Thanks again.....
