Guest GazH Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 I am going to get an mpx200 (probably) from orange in the next couple of weeks and was wondering whether its worth getting orange care cover with it. Surely if the phone goes wrong there shouldn't be a problem changing it, should there ? I never take out extra warranties on anything...mostly cos most of them are a scam....but i have read (on these forums) of people getting replacements on their orange care, surely they'd get a replacement any way, whether they had cover or not. Any advice appreciated...cracking forums by the way...loads of advice... cheers Gaz
Guest kobukan Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 IMHO, I would take out Orange care. If anything goes wrong with your phone or even if you drop the phone they replace very quickly. My E200 was replaced over the bank holiday recently. Phoned the problem on the holiday Monday had the phone replaced by 10.00am the next day. Well worth £5.00 per month.
Guest mikey1234 Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 orange care is free they say its £5 but i havent ever payed and they have replaced my e100 4 times..................yes take the care
Guest GazH Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Just noticed on the MPX200 forum that lots of people are having problems getting a replacement for their faulty mpx200s (being offered a nokia 6600)... So I was wondering, if I got a SPV E200, and had a problem, would this be replaced with another E200. Or is this a problem as the stocks of mpx200s are getting low and they don't want to give the e200 as a replacement.. It doesn't seem to matter that some of these people have Orange Care either...they are all being fobbed off with an inferior phone.. Cheers Gaz
Guest Skilty Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 Just to let you know. I tried getting my faulty E200 replaced with Orange yesterday, i've got the Orange Care which i pay £5 a month for but i was informed that there would be an excess charge of £15 to send the phone out to me. After arguing that i had'nt been informed about the excess charges the operator has kindly let me have the phone replaced for free! - a word of warning though, don't try to use sarcasm on the orange operators, it goes straight over their heads..... "free = £5 a month"!
Guest Ras Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 strange isn't it... I was told that normally I should be charged £15 for my replacement (on top of the £5 per month) but on this "special occasion" it would be wavered!!! :) Not sure why... has anybody actually been charged an extra £15??? P
Guest kobukan Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 I too was told there was a £15 charge, but this time they will waver the fee.
Guest rogerbates Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 I too was told there was a £15 charge, but this time they will waver the fee. If the phone is faulty surely you shouldn't have to pay for a replacement anyway. Isn't that part of your statutory rights? Or is Orange trying to make themselves look good?
Guest jonnyb Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I requested a replacement E200 via orange care yesterday (down action on my joystick had failed) New handset arrived this morning no mention of a £15 fee...
Guest mcwarre Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I had a mail shot from Orange informing me of the £5 a month (I have been on £2.50 a month for years) and the £15 charge. There was a charge for accidental damage but I always made sure that it was a problem with the phone rather than me 'dropping it' hence avoiding the £15..............
Guest GazH Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Thanks for the advice all, I'm going to pick up a SPV tomorrow, and get the Orange Care with it. Your help was much appreiciated Cheers Gaz
Guest Bry Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 hi guys, i purchased orange care (lump sum of £50 since im on pay as u go) a few days after buying my phone) this was about 2-3 weeks ago now. While my bank account shows the moneyw as taken i have had no letter of confirmation or any terms and conditions posted to me. The lady on the phone said my cover staretd right away. Am i supposed to recieve anything via the post?
Guest biffsmash Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 I was told when I replaced my E200 a few weeks ago, that the £15 excess fee, is a new fee introduced, that is chargable after the first six months of taking out orange care. So If you claim in the first 6 months of having the phone, you arent charged, after the six months, its added every time you receive a replacement. It's well worth it imo. With Singlepoint Voda, when i had a nokia 3650, they said I had to send the phone off for repair, and if they couldnt fix it within a week, I could pay £50 and make a claim, which could then be turned down lol! needless to say I chucked the phone in the drawer, lowered my monthly fee to the lowest I could, and went and got myself an E100 on orange (nice care, crap phone  ) I think they say they are waiving it purely to make you think your getting a deal. But after 3 replacement E200's in 3 days, I managed to get this info out of the operator. edit: to bry, I havent ever received anything in the post regarding orange care cover, but you are covered. Best thing is simply to phone them and ask if you have orange care cover, if they say no, they've messed up somehow :) biff
Guest pisquee Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Is always best to ring up and check - a couple of times i have been told i was covered - requested care on start of contract/upgrade, and when it came to time for a replcement I was informed that I was not covered - which kinda sucked. so I had to pay the #60 emergency care to get the replacement. lKuckily all is sorted now, and as i'm a small business customer i get the #5 a month fee waived.
Guest Bry Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 cheers, ill phone up later and check but if it ever coems to it i got the bank statement showing themt aking the moeny :)
Guest Davo Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 If the phone is faulty surely you shouldn't have to pay for a replacement anyway. Isn't that part of your statutory rights? Or is Orange trying to make themselves look good? No if you dont have care Orange dont have to replace your handset. You are entitled to 12 months waranty, at which point you would have to make arrangements to send to back to a repair company who would then take a week to deem if its a warranty claim or not. IF you have taken care and the handset develops a "waranty" type fault in the first six months your admin fee will be waivered. IF you dropped, lost or got water damaged to the handset the admin fee would be imposed no matter what the time line was.

Am i supposed to recieve anything via the post? you will recieve a letter saying your covered (can take 4-6 weeks to arrive!!) If you have any doubt call 451 from your handset or 07973 100 451 from a landline) customer services will clarify if care is on the account in seconds. (Please note, the certificate is not needed in any way shape or form to make a claim)
Guest Davo Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 I requested a replacement E200 via orange care yesterday (down action on my joystick had failed) New handset arrived this morning no mention of a £15 fee... Your claim was a warranty defect in the first six months.
