Sim unlock spv e100

Hi,

I've got a bit confused over how to sim unlock my spv e100! I have the latest update on the Orange UK network (I think it's 1.6) - therefore, will this method work.....

Is it safe to downgrade the software or can it be a bit risky?

Or is this method better (when the link is working that is - it's not working at moment):
