Our spies in the field have alerted us to a new product - a great car kit that will finally allow you to use the same kit for different models of phone!

Expected to be available from the usual accessory suppliers VERY soon, the 'Quinn Universal Car Kit' offers easily interchangeable cradles, so when you change your phone, you don't need to change your car kit!

Photos of various phones in the kit, expect to retail for 150 UK pounds, are included below.

The usual Car Kit features are expected to be included, Radio Mute support, charge-in-cradle etc.

More news as we get it, and keep an eye open for a review coming soon!

:)

PS I've been off the forums for a while, but i'll shortly be back, with a VENGEANCE

Indeed, it sounds VERY promising, but lets hope it does what it says on the web site!

What we need is someone with an E200 and get them to :

a) see if an E100 would work

 ensure the car kit works

c) buy one :)

Who's going to be the first to give this a try, I'm a little cautious as previous kits for the original SPV and E100 etc been slated (I think that’s what I read, read so much on car kits, bluetooth kits etc etc!)

I hope to be trying one soon, and will do a full photo review...

Wonder how much the Audi garage charge to fit car kits? or I could fit it myself in the Matiz... Hmmm...

For anyone with an A4 who wants to fit a car kit...

I've got an A4 (latest model), and have a nokia kit in there (previous phone), you can remove the glove box with four or five screws and the whole thing comes out (watch out for attached cables). It is then relatively easy to run the mic cable up to the windscreen and up the passenger side roof support, along the top and into the light (gently remove the interior light cover), out again and stick it to the roof just above your head. You'll need to start from the point you wish to mic to be placed as the plug end is the smallest (obvious I know). I used the stereo's speaker input for the phone speaker (you can configure the radio to output to left, right or both front speakers) and also the mute function, the radio shows the connections on a diagram on the top. The radio is the standard concert with single cd no tape.

Hope this helps, took me about 4 or five hours when I'd figured everything out and wired the radio.

P.S. You'll probably need to get Audi to remove the radio for you.

The E100 won't fit a E200 cradle as the aerial is a slight different place :)

I have just ordered 3 of them from freedom. I will be fitting one to my bug, one in a A6 and another in a 3 series, so i will take a few piccys of the install :)

The E100 has a kit. You can get it from Orange. It only fits the E100 though. It is also on the wrong side of crap and has no radio mute :)

I ordered the kit from Freedom at 5pm yesterday and it arrived 8am this morning, very good service!!!

A friend in the trade is going to fit it for me tonight

I am still debating whether to have it wired via my stereo, as this is only of interest if MP3's will play though it, anyone had the kit fitted and tried yet?

Also confused by one of the blocks in the loom, it’s labelled: -

FL+ Speaker (green)

FL- Speaker (green with yellow tracer)

FL+ Speaker (orange)

FL- Speaker (orange with white tracer)

FR-SP IN+ (purple)

FR-SP IN- (purple with black tracer)

FR-SP OUT+ (grey)

FR-SP OUT- (grey with black tracer)

Seems like to many front lefts… And the IN and OUTS for an amp???

I wonder if these are miss-labelled, any ideas?

surely ther'll be two for front left, 2 for front right, 2 for rear left, 2 for rear right, unless i'm way out :)

forgot to mention, the wires wont matter where they go to, as the sound going to each speaker will be the same :)

That's what I was thinking... But I don't want to fry my stereo or the car kit.

It is very quite.... :) Got my bug in bits at the moment....

Anyone got a clue what the white wires do?

The speaker wires also make no sense. Freedom haven't a clue and there is no wiring manual but a rather useless book about "CAK" kits.

Fitted :)

I rate the whole thing 7/10.

Bad Points

The audio output is far too low. ( This needs sorting! ) Maybe becuase of the update?

The cradle wants to undo itself.

Manual is total crap. No wiring instructions.

Good Points

It charges the phone and i stay legal on the move.

I don't think it looks too bad.

Hold on a sec peeps....

This car is is too quiet to use.. So the ones i have bought will be going back...

I have the phone on full output and still if i put the car fan on or drive the car you can barely hear anyone!!! You would have thought it would have been tested........ Why is it anything to do with the Smartphone is half cocked? This is terrible news for the E200.

@lowbug

Did you wire into your stereo? Using: -

FL+ Speaker (green)

FL- Speaker (green with yellow tracer)

FL+ Speaker (orange)

FL- Speaker (orange with white tracer)

FR-SP IN+ (purple)

FR-SP IN- (purple with black tracer)

FR-SP OUT+ (grey)

FR-SP OUT- (grey with black tracer)

Where yours labelled this way?

Or did you not connect those at all and just use the supplied speaker?

Also did you figure out what the two white cables where for?

Cheers

Is this the car kit that has been promised by ORA, I see ORA are selling it, but I thought they were developing one themselves. Is this kit from Quinn or ORA?

Can we expect another kit etc etc etc....Is this the car kit that has been promised by ORA, I see ORA are selling it, but I thought they were developing one themselves. Is this kit from Quinn or ORA?
