E200 UK 2.6.1.3 changed to Qtek 1.7.10.4 ROM findings

Hi all,

Just like to share my findings. I am using an Xphone. 1 day after I bought it, I flashed it to the Orange E200 UK 2.6.1.3 ROM and never looked back.

Now I hear news that O2 has a new ROM in some of their service centers (no downloads yet). I noticed that this new O2 rom has basically the same Windows build version as the Qtek 1.7.10.4 ROM released in early April.

So out of curiousity I decided to put the Qtek ROM on my Xphone.

These are my ROM versions (Qtek 8080 version 1.7.10.4):

Radio version 1.12.00

Operator 1.7.10.4

Manufacturer 1.11.10.0

Microsoft 4.20.13349.0

Language 1.11.10.0

File System 4.20.13349.0

Some new features / differences from the E200 ROM:

1. Different MMS client:

- MMS client now can send/receive VIDEO (3GP and maybe MP4) and AUDIO (AMR) files!

- MMS client can resize the picture before sending (great!).

- MMS client is less integrated than the Jataayu one found on E200 ROM, adding recipients from address book is more complicated (not so great).

2. SMS can set to turn on Delivery Report by default (finally!).

3. Cleartype not on by default (but easily fixed).

4. It is APPLICATION UNLOCKED! Just like the O2 ROM.

So, just want to point out that the new MMS client has some very nice features! On-the-fly picture resize, video and audio file support! Its not so easy to find/upgrade to the Qtek ROM, but even if you cannot or do not want to do it, then this is still a good indicator of things to come (better MMS client, etc.).

Heh I found the rom. But the website which it is hosted on is not English. Well kind of afraid to flash it because if the default language is not in English I would be busted.

Hardcore, is there any backup software after you change to the QTek ROM?

As far as I know Orange ROM have it, is that right?

Is it now a Greek ROM version or not ?

If not, what's then the use of the second - probably Italian - version ?

My principal question:

Is it all the same which (language) version is used or not.

If it's not the same so why posting here links to a Greek version and exposing others here to the risk of screwing up their phones ?

WARNING - It has been found that after you upgrade to this ROM, it is not easy (but still possible) to downgrade back to other ROMs.

Is it possible to use this rom on a dutch spv e200 with rom 2.6.3.3?

Would it make a difference? Does the swedish rom have the

sms confirmation switched on by default?

this would be a reason for me to upgrade ..

How do I have to perform the upgrade? I have bootloader 1.0.7 on my phone ..

Just to pre emtive everyone who will ask "I installed the "latest qtek/orange/imate/smart rom update on my none qtek/orange/imate/smart phone and now its broken" questions we will get

PLEASE DONT INSTALL ROMS FROM OTHER OPERATORS ON YOUR PHONE - IT HAS A HIGH CHANCE OF BREAKING IT

installing other roms not provided by the people you got your phone from voids all sorts of things, and has been known to kill phones.

and if you are going to do the upgrade dont forget to "wrap the rascal"
