3GP video recorder for Smartphone?

Hi all,

The latest Smartphone 2003 ROMs come with MMS clients that can send/receive video and audio. However, the standard for video over MMS is 3GP video files.

My Smartphones video recorder software seems to only record in MJPEG AVI. Most of the Symbian OS type phones can record 3GP video (even the 3650...). I guess hardware limitations should not be the problem since the latest Xphone/E200/Qtek8080 have faster hardware?

Are there any other video recording software for MS Smartphones that can record in 3GP or MP4 format?

the best bet would be a small program to select an avi/mpg then convert to the 3gpp format and attatch to an MMS. if conversion algorithms/code are around on the net, shouldnt be a super hard app at all.

my thoughts exactly. either a camcorder app that can record to 3gp or an avi->3gp encoder for smartphone. i find it sad that there are so many such 3gp recorders for symbian os (indeed it is standard fare), but the smartphone recorder decides to record in MJPEG.

You can't really call the picture message function on the E200 an MMS client! It doesn't support anything of any use. 3GP is standard on all video message fones to get the compression down enough to send a 10 sec clip under 100Kb. Also AMR format for audio on MMS is on nearly every fone to send and ALL modern fones that recieve MMS's. But NOOOOOOO not on the E200, the MMS function is total and utter S@*T!!!!!!!

doesn't the E200/Xphone have a function to record audio into .amr ? I'm pretty sure, as I've sent audio along with an mms message, i record an audio message and send it along with the mms. The only other problem I would guess is the video. But when you use the phones MMS, you really can't attach anything, other than picture or audio or text. So it would have to be a different program that can handle sending 3gp files with the phone, because there are converters out there for mpg/avi to 3gp and vice versa. You just have to convert it on the computer, or have another program that converts it for you on the phone, but that would be a big ask.

Hi ex_zero,

The good news is that, with the latest Qtek ROM, the new MMS client in it supports sending 3GP video! I just installed the ROM, hence the newfound desire to capture 3GP videos on the phone. The new MMS client even supports resizing pictures on-the-fly before sending them in an MMS - very nice for saving $$$ (most operators charge a lot more for MMS greater than 30kb). And yes, it supports sending audio too.
