Guest Blakey Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 The Mpx200 seems like a cracking phone - I've had one in my hot little hand and really liked it. However, my contract with orange runs out in early July and I should probably hold off till then to replace my phone. Anyone have so much as a hunch as to when the MPx220 will be out and will it be worth waiting that little bit longer for? Any advice always appreciated! Blakey
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 There is no definate release date so you could be infor a very long wait.
Guest Blakey Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Yeah, I guess so. But it'll be just my luck to buy myself a MPx200 and about a month later they'll release the MPx220. :) Just can't quite decide what to do!! Also, this talk of a "relaunched" MPx200 is interesting and is also making me think I should hold fire for a bit before jumping in to getting an MPx200. Joy.
Guest Zeke009 Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 I tried to get an approximate date from them as well, but they are unable to provide one. Here's the email response I got from them. Thank you for contacting Motorola e-mail support. We really appreciate your interest in our brand and our products. Motorola is continuously launching new products. When cellular products launch, the timelines are often defined by agreement between Motorola and the phone carrier who will be selling the product on our behalf. Because of this, the dates that we are given are not always specific. It is our commitment that when we new phones are delivered, they meet or exceed our customer's expectations. This requires extensive testing of the product by Motorola and the service provider that will carry them. The MPx100 phone will work under GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 network and will have a build-in 1.3 MP camera with flash, the Microsoft SmartPhone 2003, Windows Media Player, Bluetooth, WAP 1.2.1, T9, Sync ML, Voice memo, Voice dial. The MPx220 under GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 network and will have the same basic features than the MPx100. The MPx will work under GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 network and it will have a build-in 1.3 MP camera with video and flash, Microsoft SmartPhone 2003, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Wireless LAN, Windows Media Player, Java and WAP 2.0. Since those phones have not been released some features may change. In order to be update about Motorola new launches we recommend you to visit regularly our Motonext section in our website. http://commerce.motorola.com/consumer/QWht...l/motonext.html
Guest kr00t0n Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Orange rep at work said they are expecting the mpx220 round sept time, here's hoping :)
Guest Davo Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 As far as im aware the only things Moto plan to release with Orange in the 2nd and 3rd Quarter is the V80 and V220 The MPx 200 is to be relaunched, this month. as the software was deemed very buggy. All stocks were recalled and it has been completly redone, moto are confident it will do better than ever. (Dont plan on seeing the MPx220 anytime b4 the 4th quarter at the earliest.
Guest fredwards Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 That is not what I have been hearing at all about its release (at least with regards to the north american market) AT&Thas been confirmed by Motorola (according to sources who have cited emails from moto) as the carrier in the US and people have been told it will hit the market in under a month. I also heard from a different source that it will be on the Rogers network in Canada before JUne (but i think Mid JUne is more accurate). AT&T has stopped ordering MPX200's and is trying to flush them out. The reason people believe that there is no official word from moto is because it will decrease MPX200 sales if people know the upgrade is around the corner. Also, people have argued that there is no FCC approval for the mobile in the states, BUT since it is an upgrade of the MPX200 and not a completely new phone i have heard that there does not need to be further approval for the handset by the FCC. It is possible that Motorola is producing them now and shipping them within a few weeks. Enough have been starting to pop up for them to appear to be completely degined, and i heard a rumor that Moto recently recieved the shipment of TFT screens it wil be using in the MPX220. I only hope that th silver one comes to canada as it looks beautiful, and the black one looks like crap.
Guest fredwards Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 My guess is that there is no release soon in the UK or Europe because you guys just got the e200 and we have not. There is no sense making a useless competition when the e200 can sell there and the MPX220 here. You can always grab them off ebay and unlock them (sim free or w/e its called)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 i heard a rumor that Moto recently recieved the shipment of TFT screens it wil be using in the MPX220. One thing about rumours etc is above, why would moto recieve a shipment of TFT screen when they are not actually making the handset? It would make more sence for the manufacturer of the screens send them directly to the handset manufacturer?
Guest Norky Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 I was asking this exact same question six months ago, decided to get an MPx200 though (thank god) :)
Guest Colonel Trouble Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 I'm soon to be the proud owner of a mpx200 :) Just thought i'd tell everyone (again ) I'm ded chuffed !:D:D:d
