Guest Kingherc Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 sadly no... I don't know how things work on smartphone 2002, that's why. If anyone knows how to convert the program from 2003 to support 2002, please tell me!
Guest MECX Posted May 15, 2004 Report Posted May 15, 2004 looks good to me my friend might have a ponder at the source code after my exams and see if i can come up with anything. Unfortunatly SM2002 does not support the .net framework therefore to program it you need to use Visual C++, and it would be quite a task to just convert it to C++, i would think a total re-write. Up to you if you think its worth the effort, most of the new breed of smartphones out this year will be .net compatable so your program will appeal to alot more devices in the near future. Remember its FREEWARE people and someone has given up there time to produce this application with no benefit to themselfs. Its takes alot more time produce a program in C++ than it does using the .net languages so i would say most freeware will be produced using it. looking forward to see this project develop :-D :-D
Guest fr33nury Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 well..thx for xplaining the diff btween 2002 and 2003 mecx.now i understand y the prog's not compattible with my mpx200.the programme looks good though..wish i could use it cos i love taking photos. :)

Guest MECX Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 oh no---could you explain in a bit more detail what your trouble is, there are probably some people on this forum that could offer you some advice.
Guest Kingherc Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 I started publishing my first program for Smartphones 2003 (Windows Mobile) "Pocket Image Editor" about a week before on my website at HTTP://www34.brinkster.com/kingherc/, with the hope that it will help users and developers and that I wouldn't be harmed in any legal way. It was completely free under the GNU GPL license which is used by many free programs. The problem is that I distributed and incorporated some Microsoft Samples for Smartphones (source and object form) in the program. I excluded them from my GNU GPL licence (they had their own and I didn't want to get in their way of course..), and I thought I acted according to their licences: As they say in their licence, I used the source for non-commercial purpose, and I did include their licence with their source in my distribution package. But I recently received an email from GNU saying that Microsoft maybe doesn't allow this. This email wasn't absolute but was rather an advice and not a formal/legal one. But I thought I should stop distribution of my program for the time being until this problem is resolved for sure (I'm waiting another reply). Now, I'm sitting some school examinations, but after a month, I will start re-developing my app so that it substitutes what was lost from Microsoft Samples, and I will re-distribute the newer version without any danger (it will also be far better!). If nothing's wrong (there shouldn't be anyways), I will of course re-destribute my program before making another version. Just be sure that the upcoming version will kick some as*! It will have many more inside (some kind of zoom, many effects etc.). I will try to make it the best. I do know that it was far better than the other image editing software (which is commercial by the way!)! Please, understand that there maybe isn't any problem in reality! Maybe I did everything right. If you want to help me out and clarify the situation, please answer me this after having read the licence of GNU GPL and the shared source licence of microsoft for .net compact framework samples: Is there anything wrong to use the object form of the samples, as well as distributing their sources (including their licences), and then licence my program under the GNU GPL licence while excluding any code of their samples from the GNU GPL licence? That is the question I posed to GNU. Hopefully, I'll get the answer that there isn't any problem and I'll distribute my program once more! Of course, as the program was developped by me, I can still distribute the program solely (not the samples also), but that would mean no "Save" function nor an Explorer window for picking a file. All other things would work ok. If anyone wants that, I'll try. I'll also answer any question related to image editing if any developper wants to ask something! Thx for paying attention! Just be sure you'll get one good image-editing software in about a month (after my school exams), so keep an eye on my website and on the modaco posts!!
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Can this program be used to view pictures? All I want is a program, when you're browsing in smart explorer and come accross a picture, I want to view it, instead of using internet explorer to view it every time, or IA Album. Am Using Orange SPV3.
Guest Kingherc Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Yes, when the program is loaded, you can see the picture (ordinary image types like .bmp or .jpg are accepted) immediately and navigate the window. If you want, visit http://www34.brinkster.com/kingherc/ and see a screenshot. You can open the file with smart explorer to the program. To be able to load the image in the program without having to manually open it, you must associate the file type (eg. .jpg) to the program with the aid of smart explorer. But there's also another problem: I don't know how to make the program auto-load the image when it is opened by Smart Explorer! Anyone got an idea on how to do that? As far as I know, Smart Explorer sends some kind of command to the program but I don't know how to get/analyze it in my program. So, for now, the program can't auto-load the image. If you associate it through Smart Explorer, the program will be opened, but the image won't be auto-loaded. I'll search into it and maybe incorporate this function in a future version!
Guest Kingherc Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Well, i overpassed certain problems and have made a new version, much better than 0.1. It's Pocket Image Editor 1.0 and you can find it at http://www34.brinkster.com/kingherc/.
