Writing SMS with no Service/Signal....

Hi,

I got a quick question about "Writing SMS".

I commute in the morning via subway for about 25 minutes, and I write a lot of SMS during this time.

I wondered if i there is a way that the SMS are put into "outbox", when I dont have service/signal and then are sent out when I am out of the subway and have service/signal again.

as of right now, when I send a sms and click send, it tries to send even if i dont have a signal, the result is that I am getting an error msg telling me that I dont have service and it is put into the "sent messages" folder. Or I have to prospone the sms and then reopen and send it when I out of the subway and have a signal again

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Max

Hi.

Compose SMS message first then at the 'To:' field, type Outbox then finally press Send. It will be moved to your Outbox folder then when you have a good signal already, you can go back to your Outbox folder, open the saved message, choose Forward then insert the recepient's number at the To: field/box. :)

Problem with that is that when you hit forward it adds all of the email forwarding tags etc which is a real shame. The best thing to do in my opinion is to hit Menu and then Postpone the message, it then goes in your drafts and when you edit it all you have to do is send it :)

thanks for your answers.

as of right I am using the way that "Brody" discribed.

BUT - I dont want to do the EXTRA step for each sms. I dont want to go back and then send it. i want the software to do this job for me. Just put it automaticly in the "outox" when there is no signal, and when signal come awailable, then it send them out one after another!!!

any suggestions?

I saw this feature on the "blackberry" handhelds. There youwrite msges and it moves into the outbox until a signal is available, then it sends them all out.

PS: I dont think this is hard to program. Cant MS think of these things? Also hey, I need a key to get a "0" (zero) while I am in t9 mode. I hold down "0" for long. and I get a plus sign! - HELLO i can get the plus sign in the symbols screen! - that should have also been tested. - and fixed with an update! - Just another thing I had on my mind!

The problem with this is that Pocket Outlook will need to keep polling the phone to determine whether a signal exists or not, this wastes processing power and puts more of a drain on the battery. In the case of the SPV, E200 this is bad cos we need all the battery power we can get! hehe

please if it checks every five minutes if the signal is there then there is no problem - I am mean how long are you with hout signal max 30 minutes. that is like nothing for the battery. but going through 30 screens to get all the sms send out - that is a waste of battery!!!!

what about the holding down "0" in t9 mode for long and getting a "+" sign! - can I change that to "0" some how. I think this would help a lot of people a lot!!!!!! -

come on programmers out there - help us out!!!!

Sadly, e200 t9 features suck. It drops your saved words for no obvious reason, has no memory of frequently used words and has no way to get 0 when in predictive mode. The t9 dlls don't seem to be available for mucking about with, short of major hacking and rom flashing.

I see what ur saying man, but what if u out of signal for more than 30 mins cos u on a plane or summet like that, just cos u r without signal for 30 mins doesnt mean everyone is the same. I dunno if u know how Smartphone OS works but if u open programs it closes other inactive memory resident ones in order to free up RAM. So even if u had Pocket Outlook open there is a good chance it would close if u open any other programs.

Yes it would be possible to program a solution but u gotta remember that this goes against the concept of SMS which is to send short messages instantly to other phones. It sound to me like you should be sending emails from your phone, and because over 50% of mobile phones in the UK are now GPRS enabled most of your friends should be able to receive an email.

well actually what I want is writing SMS because it is easy for everyone. and I dont want to sign up for GPRS service.

I guess it cant be fixed then! - would be a hell of a lot better though, if sms would be put into "outbox" if no signal is available then to give me back an error msg, "sms was not sent successfully, please check network coverage (or so)" and then you gotta go into "sent msgs" and sent/forward it again when you do have signal and inaddition to that kill all the forward infor that being put there automaticly when i choose to gforward msg.

anyway - if someone knows how to get this info to the people who do make changes to the smartphone OS, then please do and let me know of it.

secondly. I asked before (see above) but it was overlooked!

In t9 mode. I hold down "0" key long and an "+" sign apears, can some programmer change that so an "0" aprears when I hold the key donw long. because I dont need a key for the plus sign I can get that out of the "symbols screen"; what I need is to get a "0" in t9 mode!

Again if anybody can programm that, let me know - also if someone know the right people who can change that, then please forward and let me know

Thanks in advance, Max

I want a program that actually composes my SMS messages for me! :) Perhaps then somebody could port it to the PC and link with MS Office, my job would become a doddle ;-)

max, a possible solution would be for the sms's to be sent to the outbox ready to be sent if you have no signal, and then in the menu for the unbox have a option for "send all pending sms" or something. Obviously you know when you are out of the train tunnel and have a signal so u can do this yourself right away, and it means u dont have to mess about sending every messager from the draft folder and you wont have pocket outlook polling to see if you have a signal (and wasting battery life) as someone mentioned.

I dont know how feasible this is to program though. (for the programmers>>>) I seem to remember seeing a post (from Arisme i think) about how you can add menu items to existing programs (he did an example for the contacts app) but getting the failled sms to go to outbox is another thing...alas i dont know anything about programming :)
