I thought this might be usefull tutorial for the new Betaplayer that has been released

I've been encoding stuff for the spv for a while now and as Pseudo Full screen WMV isn't as nice as Full screen DIVX. I'll share some wisdom with those of you that are interested.

Your encoding toolkit download list

Virtual Dub

Divx Codec

Processing setup file for Virtual Dub

Betaplayer for Smartphone

After you have installed all that.

Open Virtual Dub

Load the processing settings file by clicking File, Load processing settings.

Then load your MPG/AVI by clicking File, Open video file.

You can't open WMV files 'cause it's MS and they don't like the open source community.

You should have a re sized re oriented preview version of the file you have just loaded.

If you want to tweak the encoder settings goto the compression option under Audio or Video.

Some rules about encoding

The higher the Framerate the Lower the Kb/Second you have to balance out the stream.

Audio quality is killed off as well with the MP3 codec

Streams should really be mono and to get the best video output pick the lowest.

Use Divx or Xvid to compress Video

Use MP3 Codec for audio

High bitrates just choke the phone and it drops frames.

I have crashed my phone through this simple process of elimination to find an acceptable compromise.

I've found that setting the Framerate to between 18 and 23 seems to be acceptable and video tearing isn't too bad.

Framerate=18

Video Kb/s=128

Audio=16Kb/s @ 11Hz MONO

Framerate=23

Video Kb/s=100

Audio=8Kb/s @ 8Hz MONO

Ok once you are happy with the settings goto File Save as AVI. There you go copy the file accross to your phone and play it.

Nice djfuego. Ill give it a try. :)

I've been using sui99spj's guide to Media Encoding. A part of the tutorial was intended for PocketMVP but encoded video also works for Betaplayer.

i think all those encoding parametrs must change as betaplayer is faster and better than pocketmvp

Perhaps we should see if Clinteastman will make and test some new settings for BetaPlayer as his PocketMVP settings are great... :)

I coded some DivX video files for my smartphone and my mpx200 plays 192kbs @ 24fps DivX fluently!! :) Thanks to betaplayer, I if I use PocketMVP the result is bumpy.

Anyone fancy making some short clips of movie trailers etc. using their best settings

and posting them for people to download? :)

maybe we could start a thread where people post clips encoded for Betaplayer even :lol:

yes we should, like a benchmarking guide. we test out settings for movie trailers and post results here. that'll be great!

Cheers matey. But again, without sounding stupid, which bit do i actually need to download?

Right, just a quick question and once again it's most likely down to my inbuilt stupidity but once i've processed my MPG file or whatever and saved as an AVI on Virtual Dub, i then transfer it across to my phone, which is all fine and good. And it plays perfectly and everything apart from one thing....it's upside down on the actual phone screen. And yes, i've been to the orientation in the settings on Beta Player but selecting them does nothing to change the situation....any ideas?

Hello.

I add Video filters to my encoded files. Open VirtualDub then in Video-> Filters -> Add -> Rotate. You may choose from Rotate image left by 90deg, right by 90deg or round 180degrees.

Btw I use version 1.5.9 build 18121. Im not sure though if you have these options in the VirtualDub that you are using right now.

You may always play with your files in VirtualDub until you get your best settings.

hi just woindered if you guys came across the wonderful divxencoder for smartphone ive had some really excellent results on my mpx 200

http://divx.ppccool.com <---------------------pocketdivxencoder and also a link to betaplayer

You can't open WMV files 'cause it's MS

you can use TMPGENC to convert them to AVI or MPG before you use virtualdub

Guest phonesmarts

for TMPGENC, what are your best quality settings for a divx codec? (size and quality)

Guest looeee
Posted

I use TMPGENC to convert to MPEG-2 retaining size and framerate, using the MPG as an intermediate file. All the real conversion is done in pocketdivxencoder or virtualdub.

TMPGENC can not convert to avi/divx

betaplayer is one of the best things to happen to smartphone

This FAQ article has a very good guide to using virtualdub for creating movies for smartphone

To let you all know:

The 3ivx D4 4.5.1 Video Codec works great with BetaPlayer

http://www.3ivx.com/

I use VirtualDub to encode/resize.

seems much faster (smooth) than Xvid1.0. I use QP3 or 4 for quality (this gives around 95% quality) and gives results coparable to DivX 5 at 700kbps.

Quality is avesome, speed is great (I get 138% result with benchmark).

My files are usually 220 width x around_90 height, 700kbps video, 64kbps 44KHz mono audio.

BetaPlayer RULEZ :)

why does the above post look so familiar? hmmmm...

lol

but i now see that increasing bps or fps really couse a big file so i see no reason watching a movie with 25fps and 700kbps!

Using 25fps and high bitrate I get the same quality I have on PC - and this is what I want :D The true power of Smartphone :D

Picture quality was always important to me, file size doesn't matter as long as you have big SD card.

Posted

it is if you want to fit a complete movie on your SD card, and you have an 256Mb card. I have some movie clips on my card which are great quality and don't take up a lot of space so it is possible.
