Guest Gavin19 Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 I have read all related mpx200 and spv e200 posts thoroughly and I wanted to just ask a few questions, sorry if I rehash anything already said. First, I have had an mpx200 for 6 days and have been happy with it, until reading all the negative posts, and some hints towards the spv e200. Also I had a nokia 6600 on o2 but gave it to my wife after 2 days, just didn't take to it at all. What I want to know is is the SPV 'better' than the mpx or is it just cause of the newer os that people prefer it? Btw I don't care about cam/bt as I got an attachable cam with the mpx and havent even opened it yet. Also why was I told that the mpx ran at 200mhz and had 2003 when it doesnt do/have either? Also why have I read that the SPV is 'slower' even tho they have the same basic spec, and most people say that the spv runs the gb/nes emus better/faster than the mpx? And i tried the gb emu as i already had roms, and it ran slow as hell, maybe 1/2 speed or less. The reason I am asking is because I have had 3 different phones in 3 weeks and finally settled on the mpx, but now I read about all the potential faults that may occur, as opposed to the spv. I realise that I may never experience any of these faults personally, but it is still disconcerting. I also wanted a windows phone because of the software/emu potential as opposed to an 'ordinary' phone. However I am not a business user and want to use my phone mostly for browsing and some games, as opposed to worrying about .NET compatibility and synching with servers. I phoned Orange as an experiment to complain about my mpx and was provisionally offered either an spv or 6600 in exchange, so if the SPV is indeed a better overall phone then this is my chance to get it. Basically I have made mistakes with upgrades before even having researched quite a bit so I just want the peace of mind of knowing that my moto is ok. Thanks for reading; sorry for rambling. PS Has anyone got a guarantee that there will be a 2k3 os update for the mpx? Im in Northern Ireland, and Orange ( obviously?! )
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Welcome to the site  Unfortunately you have some slight misinformation there :) You are correct about the processor speed etc but the SPV, E100, E200 and MPX200 all have the same processor speed but the main advantage is the MPX200 has a larger memory cache and also along with the E200 has more physical memory, and because of this cache it is faster than all the other phones I have mentioned. The SPV was the first Smartphone released and I would never accept one as a replacement as it does not compete with the MPX200 at all. Overall the MPX200 is faster, more stable and has a better build quality that of the HTC models. As for 2003 on the MPX200 there is not a definate release, certain people have it, but it has not been officially released and may not be :? With gnuboy this has never been the fastest but with the correct settings, graphics and sound it is very playable. Simply put, I would not change my MPX200 for any of the current phones on the market.
Guest Gavin19 Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Thats all I needed to hear, thanks. PS I regularly use 4-5 other forums (not phones), and this is by far the most informative and friendly of the lot. Keep it up! PPS the NES emu runs perfect so that'll do for me :)
Guest Gavin19 Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Forgot to ask, after a hard reset I have lost some apps, but I can't get the SIM Manager back. Is this possible as I would lke it back. Also another annoying thing about ms smartphones that Ive seen is that the majority of sites only refer to the SPV, and most games are 'PacSPV' or 'DoomSPV' or something else with SPV in the title  Anyway, is this SPV branding of everything just a general term to save time, or are these apps/games SPV only?
Guest mike-oh Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 It's basically a time saver or to say it works on smartphones in general by just adding the letters SPV in front or after an application title. Strange about SIM manager, not sure how/if you can get it back. All the best, Mike (waiting for his new MPX200 replacement, but don't let that put you off it really is a great phone!)
Guest Gavin19 Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Naturally I didnt back up my contacts before the reset so I lost them all. But i kept my old sim, so I put it into the mpx to transfer the numbers over, but I couldn't do it, so I went to open Sim Manager and it was gone so... If there is another way then i'd like to find out how. Cheers :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Any app that came with the phone initially and was lost after a Hard Reset can be found on the CD that came with the phone.
