Guest Stomski Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 Hey. I'm going to work on a configuration tool for Roozbeh's excellent Doom port. The current list of things that I'm going to implement is: Key bindings Main WAD file Custom WAD files (Specific to main WAD file) Sound/NoSound Background music file Anything else people would like to see?
Guest akarno Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 Your list sounds good. One thing, will no sound be for music and effects. There are times I want to run Doom without sound and it would be good to get a performance gain from doing this.
Guest roozbeh Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 also.... key binding for landscape mode and portrait mode..... (maybe diffrent rotation screens?if you like for example playing upside down....or viewing on right or left) becouse music is not implemeted and i dont think be implemented soon.....maybe specifiyng diffrent music files for diffrent times of game play!
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 how about some cheat key bindings if you feel like a bit of fun? iddqd and idkfa would be useful. Maybe an opton on startup for which map to load could be nice too.

Guest Stomski Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 also.... key binding for landscape mode and portrait mode..... (maybe diffrent rotation screens?if you like for example playing upside down....or viewing on right or left)Do you mean seperate keys for different view modes? Good idea, at the moment I can't play in landscape mode because strafe on the hotkeys of my mpx200 are too difficult to get to. becouse music is not implemeted and i dont think be implemented soon.....maybe specifiyng diffrent music files for diffrent times of game play! Well at the moment you use doom.wav(?) in the working directory, I was going to have this file name/location customisable. I'll make it so that you can specify more than one file. Then it would be nice if Doom would play a different one each level. Or even just play through all of them in turn... But that's up to roozbeh. will no sound be for music and effects I was intending for both to be enabled/disabled with seperate options. I think the plan of attack on this is I'm going to write an app to create a config file or reg settings. Once that's done, roozbeh can implement the changes into Doom to use the options I specify in the file/registry. I expect to make a good start on this tomorrow, so any more ideas post em here. Thanks!
Guest roozbeh Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 are you still working on it? so i got some more jobs for you too... add doom legacy/duke nukem too!
Guest Stomski Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 are you still working on it? so i got some more jobs for you too... add doom legacy/duke nukem too! Yeah, well. I was expecting to get a lot of work done over the past weekend, but my time was mysteriously sucked up by my girlfriend. Anyway, I'm going to get a good chunk of this done tonight, and I'll get a beta uploaded for testing so that you can try out the UI. Don't know how far I'll get. My week is then really busy, so I won't be doing any more work until next week. I was also planning to add a SP-DOOM config section to the downloads page on my website once my utility is done, I'm sure I could add a download for the Doom/Duke Nukem exes. Are Doom Legacy and Duke Nukem going to need seperate config apps?
Guest Stomski Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Update: Right... Beta isn't ready and I don't have any time to work on this until Monday. Sorry it's taking so long. But, next week I'm going to have some proper time to devote to this and the File Browser DLL. All the settings are in a tidy tree control though, even all those pesky key bindings for different screen orientations.
Guest Stomski Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Here's the general treeview layout, I need some suggested icons for each node please! Doom Config (Doom Logo) -General Options Node (???) --Main Game Type (???) --Sound - Musical Notes --Music - Musical Notes ---Music File (File with musical note) -Games (???) --Shareware Doom (???) ---Level Warp (???) ----Start Level ----Difficulty ----Monster Settings (Imp head??) ---Custom WAD Files (???) ----WAD File (???) -Key Bindings (phone buttons) --Portrait (Doom status bar head) ---Up (phone button) --Landscape Left (Head rotated) --Landscape Right (Head rotated other way) (Note: Not all settings are included above, I've left out the different games and plenty of keybindings!) Thanks!
Guest ultimasnake Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Hey nice idea... i think i will get started on a duke version , i made one for the pc ages ago.. i got some ace ideas :D..... hope you don't mind :D
Guest roozbeh Posted June 28, 2004 Report Posted June 28, 2004 hi there..... i think i will be back soon...my most important exams are finished..... but what is curent state of this project?
Guest Stomski Posted June 28, 2004 Report Posted June 28, 2004 It's nearly ready to go beta to get some feedback on the UI. Only things left to implement are: Set EXE file location / Search for EXE file Set game WAD file location / Search for game WAD file Add/Remove custom WADs Add/Remove soundtrack WAVs Draw some icons to go in the treeview Generate settings file (need to discuss the format with Roozbeh) ALSO: Beta version of my file browser DLL will be uploaded later today to the VC++ forum. Thanks!
Guest Stomski Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Hey guys. Sorry I've been out of action for so long... Seems I lost communication with Roozbeh about continuing my development. Anywho, I'll start getting a BETA together as I promised (like months ago  ) asap. Thanks... ps Roozbeh, check your messages...
