Just wondered if anyone has heard if Microsoft are planning an update to SE for 2003 users? and if so when?

I reckon it's unlikely. They haven't even streched to a 2003 update for E100 users yet.

So E200 users will never get to upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition?

No, I'm not saying that. I just don't think it's very likely. Orange would much rather you bought a new phone, and signed another 12 month contract, imo.

i agree with kyrkesmith! it is very unlikely, there is more chance of a 2003 update for e100/spv/mpx :)

Not really. The SPV Classic and E100 specifications are far less than what WM2003 requires as minimum so this wouldn't happen. However, the E200 does have the specifications that S.E. requires so it is possible for an update there. But do I honestly think that Microsoft and Orange will release a free software upgrade? No chance.

There's not much in the Second Edition that's worth having, anyway, unless you *really wanted* that Windows logo on the Start button... :-D

Of course, you are probably quite right! Seems a little odd tho, don't you think? MS has a very good reputation for updating it's products. I don't know how many updates i have had for XPHome since I first bought it - but it's a lot! I have often wondered at the MS role in smartphone. You would kind of think that MS would be aware of the severe problmes faced by SPV users over the last 2 years, and surely their own reputation (for the phone market) is a stake as much as Orange. So, it strikes me as odd that there hasn't been a single MS update for any of the smartphones - only Orange 'down'dates.

The smartphone market is indeed a strange one. Fantastic new concept, which all companies involved seem to have systematically failed to take advantage of. Let down by poor build quality and software bugs. While all companies involved just stand around pointing their fingers at the others & saying "oh, it's not our fault, they made the hardware/software/update etc". Meanwhile, the products get worse instead of better, and the market perception of smartphone among the early adopters seems to be dwindling. Strange approach to a new technology product if you ask me.

I can only hope that somewhere in motorola, someone has spotted the potential to completely capitalise on the failure of Orange/HTC/MS to deliver a reliable product, which is regularly updated.
