Guest katan Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 i can't explore the contents of my phone using my PC. i have Active Sync 3.6 installed on my PC. i can sync contacts, calendar, inbox, tasks. Whenever i try to explore the phone contents an error message appears: i just reformatted my harddisk and reinstalled WindowsXP SP1. before i had no problems with ActiveSync. after i reformatted and reinstalled the OS i always get that error message. even tried to reformat again, and again, and again but still i get the same error message. i can't transfer files from PC to phone. when i use a setup launcher to install applications on phone, it installs anyway. but if its a .CAB, i can't put it in the phone. :?: any ideas :?: help pls...
Guest Vector Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Have you tried updating Activesync to 3.7.1? Here's a link,Activesync 3.7.1, try uninstalling 3.6 and installing 3.7.1 :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Did you remember to reinstall Activsync before plugging the phone in to the PC after you did the format. Moved to Help and Advice

Guest katan Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 have solved my problem. ASync was conflicting with my firewall. it never happened before, though. just now that i reformatted my harddisk. good thing iwas able to trace what's causing the problem... now i can move on! thanx everyone! 8)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Norton firewall by any chance? Norton seems to be the main cause of unusual communication problems.

Guest charlwillis Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 Out of interest, has anyone got any ideas why this happens: When I put the phone in the cradle, ActiveSync (3.7.1) kicks in, synchronises, and when I click on Explore, the Explorer window opens with Smartphone System Folder written in the folder properties box (Windows XP Home) and a SmartPhone icon in the windown which I can then double-click and explore the phone. However, after a while or if I disconnect the phone from the cradle then put it back later, when I go to Explore, I get the SmartPhone system folder description, but no SmartPhone icon and no way of getting to the phone folders. I have to reboot the computer to get it to show up again. I use Zone Alarm (not Pro) and when everything's ok, it prompts me to allow Windows Explorer to access the internet. However, I don't get this prompt before I get the problem. Do you think this is an ActiveSync issue, a connection issue, a Zone Alarm issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeh, i had his problem, it's a strange one, it hasn't happened recently :? Try closing all the open windows explorer windows on your PC then clicking explore, may help :)
Guest charlwillis Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 I've tried closing windows, ending processes/tasks, etc. but it doesn't seem to help. Maybe it's an in-built bug to stop me messing with my homescreen too often :) Thanks anyway...
Guest katan Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 for me, i really think its Zone Alarm. i was installing ASync at my friends PC with Zone Alarm also installed, same problem. i can sync but can't explore phone contents. try using other firewalls instead, maybe it would help. When Zone Alarm asks if you should let windows Explorer access the internet, i choose no. maybe you could try some other firewall instead... Im using Sygate Personal Firewall Pro now... no problems with Acitve Sync. Still blocks selected traffics, Its all good! cool 8)
