Guest djmanders Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Hi. I'm a newbie so apologies if this question has been asked previously. Has anyone experienced (and self-fixed) a problem with the keypad on this type of phone? When attempting to compose an SMS and choosing 4/g/h/i, instead of the phone selecting just one of those it cycles through all the options on that key, over and over again, until I stop by choosing the "Menu" option, hopefully on the right letter, if not I have to delete it and try again - Very weird. This phone has been plagued with faults and was sent back to Hays for a charging problem (yse I know now that they don't have a long battery life) and to HTC because the joystick ceased to function (but only in two directions!!). Also when trying to download the upgrade from the Orange UK site I'm faced with a "not a valid Win32 application" dialog box on my newish HP PC running WinXP, so I've been unable to perform an upgrade as yet. Worst phone I've ever had in 11 years of mobile phone ownership. Any help appreciated.
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Welcome to the site mate :) ; sorry to hear of your problems  . I would not recommend upgrading anyway, as I don't expect you'd see any improvement, although others would dusagree. You need to have a read of the sticky in the E200 section dealing with the upgrade issues. As for the keypad, it does happen. Should go away shortly (within 24 hours prob.) and Orange have admitted a software fault though I would put it down to dirt / moisture etc. So, you could send it back but you may well end up with the same faults on the replacement. Mine is fairly fault-free though so I'm still a fan of the E200
Guest FATGOONER Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 My E200 had exactly the same fault with the 4 key. It most certainly does NOT go away in 24hrs. I lived with it until my joystick also packed up and it is now away for repair. The orange shop sent it said it would be five days 2 weeks later..............

I think the fault has been there for some time (I don't text much) but originally put it down to the phone being in a case and that was on the tight side perhaps forcing the key down (straws and clutching I know) but out of the case the fault persists. Interesting to hear that the an Orange shop sent it away for repair. My experience with Orange Customer "Services" is that this phone seems unsupported by them and users need to contact HTC direct now that Hays have washed their hands of warranty work. Disappointing is the best I can say.
Guest squall Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 hayes no longer repair htc phones - htc terminated the contract. As regards the sticky key just press it lots from different angles at different pressures, may fix it, if not will give you something to do while you sort stuff out with o instead of twiddling your thumbs
Guest machieru Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 strange stuff  Never had any big problems with my E200... ...well only a few crashes
Guest thulsadoom Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Yep, got the same problem. It doesn't go away. I've had it for over three months now. (I've had the phone about 2 weeks longer!! :-( ) Lost my patience, got it open, checked the keypad, fiddled with the membrane, even sperated it from the circuit board to try and see if that helped... Nope...! It's just plain old screwed!!! & Judging from the number of posts on this same topic that I've seen, it's a more common problem than people realise! Doubt I'll be getting one again.
