Guest Blakey Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Hi, My phone has just hard reset itself. I assume it was something I did, but as I don't know how to do a hard reset I don't know if I just did one. :) I've looked in the online manual but can see no explanation of how to do a hard reset, nor can I find how to do it with a search here. Thanks Blakey
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Just click on the words in your post Hard Reset :) also not important now but it can help to say which phone you have
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 It's more likely that your phone did what is known as a partial reset. This can be caused by low battery, overloading the phone storage, dodgy software etc. Unfortunately you really do now need to do a proper hard reset. You will notice that the phrase "hard reset" is clickable and you'll get taken straight to the instructions on this forum :) You will want to backup your Contacts etc either via ActiveSync or the Orange service is good. You will need to application unlock again but if you've SIM-unlocked this will be unaffected. You'll also have to reinstall anything you've put on. Read the instructions carefully. There is a knack and don't worry if it doesn't work first time. It's not as bad as it might seem right now and is actually a good way to clean up your phone. Good luck.
Guest Blakey Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Hmmm, I'm pretty sure it's hard reset. Although I certainly didn't do what it says to do on the list, my phone has lost all it's applications, all contacts, all diary info, all the start menus are reset to their original settings and everything is as it was when I first got it. Is that likely to be as a result of a partial reset? I've a E200 using the new ROM, by the way. :-) Blakey
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Actually that sounds like more than partial, but it's irrelevant now since you need to hard reset properly just to make sure everything is back to factory conditions. With the E200 you can use Clear Storage in the Accessories (?) folder which does the same thing.
Guest Blakey Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Okay! Doing a clear storage now. Cheers guys, you're great! (Am just going to have time to rush home and reload my ebook reader before I head off to Wales for a weekend of mountain biking!!) Thanks all! Blakey
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Yeah, try doing it at work when your boss is lurking ! Don't forget OTA first.
