Guest wolmannn Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 Hi, I have had 3 E200s all returned faulty within days. I now have one that works, apart from email. When I send and receive it says 'connecting...' and doesn't log on (using my orange.net email). However it usually (66% of the time) works with my tiscali account. I often get as far as a 'sending and receiving' message if I try and send an orange email, but only once has it got as far as actually sending and receiving (and then only sending). I assume this means my settings are OK though Domain:193.35.131.195 (also tried leaving this empty) server: pop3 network:the internet in: pop.orange.net out: smtp.orange.net outgoing server requires authentication. Once I select disconnect it says 'disconnecting..' and never actually disconnects unless I shut down the messaging application. I haven't run the update as I did this to the first phone and it killed the phone dead (never completed update) Do any of you have any suggestions
Guest wolmannn Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 Oops, didn't mean to put in the main forum. Can someone move to help and advice? Thanks V much
Guest Will Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 moved! I frequently have email issues, but normally they boil down to gprs problems, or server problems. Never managed to kill a phone (yet) doing an update, what happened? usually rebooting pc, and re-running the update will fix it !
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 You can get Orange to SMS your email / GPRS settings. Not a bad idea after all the changes / mainframe crashes
Guest beerguzzler8518 Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I find that trying to use email on this phone is somewhat farsical. Connecting for 5 mins and then try disconnecting hangs the email folder and the only way I've found a way of resolving that is by rebooting the phone. On the odd occaision that it does connect it then simply errors with Cannot find server. e200 email = pants
Guest beerguzzler8518 Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Well no sooner do I post on here saying that email is a waste of time my phone begins downloading emails!! :)
Guest skaramanga Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Mine can take absolutely ages to connect too, sometimes five or ten minutes, I would be ready to shut down the messaging app, then all of a sudden it starts to log on!!!!! But sometimes won't connect at all!!
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 I think Orange have had mainframe problems again this week
Guest barry_slobb Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Hi I have just got a new SPV e200 having been a classic user for a year. I am getting the same problem with email - in fact I never seem to get past 'connecting' - internet access from the phone is fine. I used the connection wizard to get the settings. One this I am confused about is the user name I should be using - as when I logon to orange mail though the web, I have to put in my phone number and password rather than an id. Should I be using my id on the phone when connecting or phone number? All very confusing. I never had any probs on my 'classic' spv. Rgds Bazza
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Now then, I've just set up email on my replacement E200 with an old orange.net account :D When you say "connection wizard" do you mean the set-up thing on the website ? The username thing confused me too but you still need to put in your original username & password, along with your phone number & email address. Why this isn't made plain is typical Orange. As for connecting to the mainframe, all I can say is keep trying :D
Guest wolmannn Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 I think it was a server problem in the end. It still seems to take much longer than on my SPV 1, but at least it manages it in the end. Thanks for your suggestions
