Guest the bishop Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 maybe I don't have the correct settings, but sometimes my WAP works, and sometimes it times out ... I'm not paying for TZones, does this make a difference, or perhaps I have incorrect (some, not all) WAP info in the setup? can someone post all the relevent settings for this phone in here? thx. . .
Guest Celestial Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 Here is the link to the GPRS/WAP Settings Repository. This is where I got the T-Mobile USA Settings http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=4861...=tzone+settings
Guest the bishop Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 thanks. :) I am wondering about DNS -- right now mine works, and is set to 0.0.0.0, but there are IPs for the ones included ... should that have an effect I wonder aloud?
Guest Celestial Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 Make your settings as they are displayed in the repository...that will insure everything is workin. I have T-Zones and it is working fine.
Guest the bishop Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 that is the problem, I don't know which to put where if any ... this is what I have below... maybe you can help to see if these are correct? in the mitac settings I go to #5 (data connections) -- from there i use these: internet connection: tmo settings (I'll list below) work connection: automatic wap connection: tmo settings (same as internet connection) secure wap connection: automatic mms connection: automatic under connections: 1 dial-up connections (i don't know what to add in here, if any) 2 VPN connections (i don't know what to add in here, if any) 3 proxy connections: connects from: the internet connects to: WAP network proxy (name:port): 216.155.165.050:8080 Type: WAP username: (blank) password: (blank) tmo settings: 4 GPRS connections: connects to: the internet access point: wap.voicestream.com username: (blank) password: (blank) primary dns: 0.0.0.0 secondary dns: 0.0.0.0 IP address: (blank) also under MSIE on the phone I have under connections the "automatically detect settings" enabled/checked, and the select network set to "WAP network" ... are these correct?
Guest o2mpx Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 Somewhat related to this topic: why does the home screen network display on phone says Cingular when I'm on tmobile? Is there a way to change that?
Guest martin Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 maybe I don't have the correct settings, but sometimes my WAP works, and sometimes it times out ... I'm not paying for TZones, does this make a difference, or perhaps I have incorrect (some, not all) WAP info in the setup? If you can download pages at certain times then the settings will be OK. If it seems really slow then try downloading a very small page like www.google.com/wml to check the data connection. The problem could be resource. There are no hard a fast rules for setting up your phone and it often depends on what sites you access. Many people don't use the WAP proxy server but it can still be helpful in some cases (i.e for some hard to get to WAP sites) You could also make a setup like this. GPRS CONNECTIONS: Description: T-Zones GPRS Connects to: The Internet Access Point: wap.voicestream.com PROXY CONNECTIONS: Description:T-Zones Proxy Connects From: The Internet Connects To: WAP Network Proxy (name:port): 216.155.165.50:8080 Type: HTTP Settings-Data Connections: Internet Connection: T-Zones GPRS WAP Connection: T-Zones GPRS Goto Internet Explorer and untick 'Auto detect Settings'. If you set 'Select Network: The Internet' then you will use only the APN wap.voicestream.com If you set 'Select Network: WAP Network' then you will use APN wap.voicestream.com + WAP proxy server If you get any old WAP sites that fail to connect then you can also try changing the proxy connection to the 216.155.165.50:9201, Type=WAP (this will use WSP) You can also set the Data connections to Automatic but this is best done with a minimum number of options for each connection. A dialup connection uses a 9.6K GSM data connection which is charged by the duration of the call (rather than by data transferred). You can create a dialup either to the T-mobile WAP service or to an ISP. Hope it helps a bit :)
Guest the bishop Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 sweet! thanks much, I should like to try this straightaway. also, regarding dialup -- is that not included I would assume in TMobiles pricing plans?
Guest the bishop Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 its odd. i can GET to the google site, but when i do a search it won't work ... ?
Guest martin Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 its odd. i can GET to the google site, but when i do a http://smartphone.modaco.com/search.php>Search it won't work ... ? Thats strange :? Can you get to any other sites ? What connection are you using (Internet or WAP+proxy) ?
Guest the bishop Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 right now i have it set to use wap. . . also using wap.voicestream.com. can this phone use the othes x.voicestream.com points? should i unlock my old phone and use those settings that tmo put in that phone as it works great? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest martin Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 You can just go into Internet Explorer and set 'Select network: The Internet' to use the APN only. This will give you HTML browsing without problems. The issue seems to be the WAP Proxy server ? You could try changing the proxy settings from Port 8080, Type=HTTP to Port 9201, Type=WAP and then accessing WAP (WML) pages. When you do this make sure that IE has 'auto detect' unticked and 'Select Network: WAP network' Then try accessing wsp://www.google.com/wml Use Menu Properties to confirm Protocol=Wireless Session Protocol If that works then you could also try wsp://wap.myvoicestream.com or wsp://wap.myvoicestream.com/#main If the proxy was set to Port 8080, Type=HTTP then it would be http://wap.myvoicestream.com or http://wap.myvoicestream.com/#main As said earlier you can just set IE to 'Select Network:The internet' to bypass the proxy server again but unfortunately some WAP sites may refuse to communicate with the smartphone directly and can only be accessed via the WAP proxy connection.
Guest markgamber Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Port 8080 as in WAP 2.0? I've never gotten that to work on my 8390 or SE T610. I figured Tmo turned that off for whatever reason.
Guest the bishop Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 i use port 8080 all the time, but when i try the google search, it just sits there, and times out (no reply) ... also cannot get to tagtag/tzones2/ although my old e105 can get there just fine ...
Guest Celestial Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Bishop, Put the following information in your phone EXACTLY as it is listed here. You will be able to use T-Zones AND use Google. You will have to create the GPRS Connections FIRST before you can change the Data Connections. Start/Settings/Data Connections Data Connections Internet Connection T-Zones Work Connection Automatic WAP Connection T-Zones WAP GPRS Secure WAP Connection Automatic MMS Connection T-Zones MMS GPRS T-Zones WAP Connects From The Internet Connects to WAP Network Proxy 215.155.165.50 Type WAP GRPS Connections T-Zones Connects to The Internet Access Point wap.voicestream.com Primary DNS 215.155.165.50 Secondary DNS 215.155.165.51 T-Zones MMS GPRS Connects to MMS Network Access Point wap.voicestream.com Primary DNS 215.155.165.50 Secondary DNS 215.155.165.51 T-Zones WAP GRPS Connects to The Internet Access Point wap.voicestream.com Primary DNS 215.155.165.50 Secondary DNS 215.155.165.51
Guest the bishop Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 coolness - what about the MSIE browswer settings? right now I have this: automatically detect settings (checked) select network: WAP Network
Guest the bishop Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 well, those settings work as well, but I still have the same woes -- cannot search on google (it just puts the flag up there moving like its doing something, then the flag disappears), can connect to wapwap/tzones2, but when I hit the initial link on the front page of it, it puts the little flag up there, and then nothing . . . here is what I had ... its odd that so many different settings can work, but none seem to work 100%, or even 95%. hmmmm -- on a side note, thank you Celestial for the help, that had to take a long time to type it up, and I surely appreciate it. GPRS: Connects to: The Internet Access Point: wap.voicestream.com Pri DNS: 0.0.0.0 Sec DNS: 0.0.0.0 Proxy connects from: The Internet connects to: WAP network access point: 216.155.165.050:8080 type: WAP
Guest the bishop Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 maybe I should reboot it, like any other windows crap machine? :)
Guest Celestial Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 You didnt put the DNS entires in...you need to put them in.
Guest Celestial Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 also take out that :8080 in the proxy.
Guest the bishop Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 no - i meant that those were the settings I had prior to removing mine and puttings yours in -- both of them worked the exact same, even after rebooting, which is that it will pull up sites, but for instance I cannot log into my msn acct on the msn mobile site, nor can I get a search back from Google's mobile site, but I can login and post here and also on howard forums ... and even on my forums that are not wap enabled (just normal php) ... odd eh?
Guest Celestial Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Hmm, the only thing I can think of if that I have the following settings in IE Menu/Options General All checked and Western Euruopean Language Connections Automatically detect settings is checked Select Network: The Internet
Guest the bishop Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 cool - I will try those as well. I did not have network set to "internet" I had "wap", and my language was baltic for some reason ...
Guest the bishop Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 hmmm. ok, now I have EXACTLY the same settings that you have, and removed all others... here are some sites that I am testing before and after ... here is what I can do now and before as well http://wap.howardforums.com -- new settings: it will connect, but none of the pictures load (have x's on them, even after refresh)... browsing/posting works -- old settings: it will connect, pictures will load, browsing/posting works. http://www.modaco.com -- new settings: it will connect, but it takes a lot longer to load than does hofo. no graphics to test ... browsing/posting works -- old settings: it will connect as fast as hofo did. no graphics to test ... browsing/posting works. http://www.google.com/wml -- new settings: connects to the site, but will not process any searches you enter ... search options does not work either. -- old settings: connects to the site, but will not process any searches you enter ... search options does not work either [no change]. http://mobile.msn.com/pocketpc -- new settings: takes a VERY long time to load (screen would shut off completely before loaded), images load on site although slower than old settings, will not even go to the sign in of MSN passport. -- old settings: takes a while to load, images will load on site, but once loaded could go anywhere on site and use any of the options there although it's VERY slow -- could not log into MSN Passport however it would allow me to attempt the l/p there. http://tagtag.com/tzones2 -- net settings: takes a long time to connect to site (as all others are as well) and sometimes will not. cannot go past first page. -- old settings: would load that first page, but would not load past that page at all, even though testing this on a samsung e105 is very fast to load. I'm going back to my old settings, as they seem to work better than the new ones for whatever reason. Hopefully I can talk to some TMo rep at Hofo and find out what the settings should be for mine here in AZ. thanks again for the help though :) will also try some others I found on Hofo.
