key binding opinions for Duke3d and DoomLegacy....

Hi there....

I have succesfully ported DoomLegacy and also Duke Nukem3d

but as you might know in both games there are lots of keys and you might need most of them to finish each level....

doom legacy is almost the same as normal doom but i am thinking of developing t9 as doom legacy got console....

and for duke there are lots of keys....

the only thing i know is that no more all 1-9 key must be binded to weapon selection....just one key for changing weapons must be enough

and also i set volume up and down to looking up and down...

shooting and opening are the same as previous ones....

and i have sme king of idea too....

how about pressinh 0 multiple times for diffrent keys?

for example presing 0 and then 1 mean "a"

pressing 0 then 0 then 1 mean b?

so?

w00t, post duke nukem 3d!!

as for controls, please dont do multi-presses, sounds pretty bad :)

how about 2 keys to cycle weapons , one forward, one back

joystick to move forward backward and turn, with a strafe key (perhaps the button ont he joystick?) so that joystick can also strafe. any key could do use i suppose, and the 2 softkeys for crouch/jump.

Don't forget the GREEN Key for changing to Landscape Mode Left/Right!

The Idea with the '0' Button sounds great.

ok a very good news ..duke speed is now really great and i fixed a very very wiered bug in engine....

it really took me almost 2 days to figure this out....

but now speed is almost perfect.....

but i see no one is cooperating in this....i only asked you some key bindings guys!!!not to program it!!!

nobody here played duke?!!

a jump....swtiching weapons....switching objects and using them are really necessary.....

hi

Yeah I played Duke3d, it was a great game shooting mutant pigs with a shotgun is always fun. Was surprised that you could get a game as powerful as that to work on a phone, is the fps as good as your doom port?

Heres an idea for the keys

Use=Right Function

Weapon switch =volume up

Inventory = volume Down

Jump = 0

Open Doors #

Fire *

kick? (That was in duke3d wernt it?) = Camera button

Another great job are you planning to do strafe one day, that was one of the best fps going, or even Rise of the triads that was also great.

thanks..

i think looking up and down might also be neccesary...so what key for them?

um.....

what about

look up = call button green

look down = call button red

Could you make a key set app? then people could do it themselves if they dont like the controls

Looking up and down is essential to get the flying lizards!! I reckon the volume up/down...?

joystick to move. keep action button pressed and joystick for look. function buttons for strafe. volume up/down for select item. * to shoot. # to activate. 1 and 4 cycle weapons. 7 crouch. 0 jump.

yeah there is a cutom option for everythings.....

but defaults are more important....not every user know how to change them and also have time for that....

also if you like multipressing option...what about it?

for examply pressing zero and other 1-9 just for selecting weapons...

so we can use them for other things...

and a treat from me...

i wont upload it until i find a perfect key binidng that solve all keys problems....:))...beleive me i wont

i am going to beleive that none of you played duke....

there is also 2d map that you can use it...and sometimes really handy.....

always some shurtcuts for using items were usefulll....

personally it sounds like a good idea, you could try it in the first release and see what other people think of it as others may not like it.

What is doomlegacy, is it a made up doom conversion?

forgot about the map function. call button would do. disengage call button for zoom of map.

Ok m8, first id like to thank u for your work and when i descoverd you were working on duke i was very very pleased, so as a soon to be end user of your port i feel the best i can do is help out here as best i can, heres my idea to be considerd and altered if needed :)

Duke Config

[KeyDefinitions]

Move_Forward = Ctrl up

Move_Backward = Ctrl Down

Turn_Left = Ctrl left

Turn_Right = Ctrl right

Strafe = Ctrl Button (strafe is esential :lol:

Fire = Voice record

Open = Green Dial

Run = Left Button "programs" (Within Ctrl pad

distance, a must)

AutoRun = 0 key (Worth Considering as only run

button if button shortage needed or)

Jump = right button "contacts" (in reach of other

Crouch = 2 key

Look_Up = Volume up

Look_Down = Volume down

Look_Left = 1 key (can easily be tapped to adjust

aim, necessary for duke :lol:

Look_Right = 3 key

Inventory = Enter

Inventory_Left = 4 key

Inventory_Right = 7 key

TurnAround = Home Key (due to smartphones being

awkrard this kinda controls will be helpful

at hands reach :lol:

Map = 5 key

Next_Weapon = 6 key

Previous_Weapon = 9 key

Oh and i feel the ability to flip screen is a must too, but that will obviously need another key config, and the ability to change keys should allways be an option just incase

I agree with your choice of keys but am wondering whether vol up/down for look up down should be changed (different to my earlier comment - b@llsed up :oops: ); i meant aim up/down for vol. Imortant for adjusting height of aim on the move for pigs in windows/aliens and lizards coming at you in the air etc... what d'yer think...?

hehe, damn we shoulda got on this post earlier dawg, maybe wed be playing it by now :D

oh i forgot look left and right are not essential as turn left and right are the same damn thing, duhhh :(

also Aim Up + Down and Look Up And Down are 1 and the same basiclly :)

yeh as long as the look up down are easilly "tap-a-ble"

the controls should work. the reason i said the vol up + down is that that is where your other hand should be placed, similar to Dual Analoug Sticks on PS all movement and look keys need to be in the native hand positions, left hand look right hand direction. well Roozbah have a play with it, i wish i had it here to test :lol: :lol:

if any 1 has the Playstation version of Duke3D refer to that style of game play as it is nearer to what we will encountern then the PC mouse and Keyboard game play. This is a hard game and fluent controls are really important.

ive noticed with some previous port ctrl configs the controls really havnt been thought out too well ie. wolfenstein, im an SPV classic owner and cant help but accidently hit the menu or quick save button every damn 2 minutes wich really annoys me and ruins the game. the DOOM config is superb i must say, i would prefer an alt strafe method but other than that its the nutz.

Guys if u wanna play this game soon then read dreamwezals post of the standard Duke CFG file and contribute your ideas, its the least u can do..

Roozbah please post if u have tested my above config with any problems encounterd so we can discuss it :lol:
