Wifi file sharing problems..anyone help?

This should be easy to figure..not for me though!

I've just set up a wireless network at home using an Asus wl-500g router. The network consists of a single desktop PC and one laptop. At the moment, I have both laptop and desktop accessing the internet (via the router, which is in home gateway mode) and email with no problems.

I'm trying to set things up so that I can file share between laptop (WinXP home) and desktop (WinXP Pro) wirelessly. I'm sure this must be easy, but I can't figure it. I'm thinking that it involves port forwarding....but the Asus manual doesn't really explain what each of the config options actually does.

On the Laptop, the Asus utility reports;

Network Type; Infrastructure

IP Address; 192.168.2.2

Subnet mask; 255.255.255.0

Default gateway;192.168.2.1

DHCP Server;192.168.2.1

I have removed firewalls from both PC's and disabled Microsofts firewall.

Also checked to make sure the workgroup name is the same, which it is. The Full computer name is different, but thats ok, right?

I've assigned a folder on both machines as shared for testing purposes. Finally I have set a user on each PC called 'Frank' both set with password. I believe this is required for 'Simple File Sharing?

At this point, I still can't access the folders on the other pc...they don't appear in the 'My network places' folder.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to get both PC's to 'see' each other? I know how to assign folders and files as shared, it's just the network part of this I need help with.

Thanks...

Have you tried using the 'add new network place' wizard in network connections and browsing for the other computer.

I'm on a wireless network and i just set up the workgroup used that wizard and everything works well. Its really useful having the ability to print off a printer attached to a computer downstairs so i dont have to have a printer in my room

first of all turn OFF all firewalls you have on--just for testing.

go to my network places and run the 'Home Networking Wizard' on both machines--make sure workgroup name is the same (MSHOME Is default)

Now click on 'Mynetwork places' and then 'view workgroup computers' click on your workgroup (default MSHOME) and your away :-D

bobs your unkle as my dad used to say :-D
