tried to install but it fails because of "no priviledget rights to install this software"... thanks for that.

I'm sure I saw this in the start menu on the mpx220 video.

Install what software? I went to the link above (on my PC) & all it did was set my account up. As far as I can tell, all that involved doing was setting up alerts for my email & messenger accounts - it'll send you an sms if you get mail/messages. There was no software to install. Is this the same thing?

hi drblow,

no, you have to install the application that brings up msn butterfly, buddy icon and hotmail-inbox symbol on your homescreen. also the formerly known link in your smartphone's program list becomes a real program then where you can change settings for hotmail inbox, contact lists and so on... maybe its not available for your country? it works here for me in germany....

cheers, lutz

Hmm ... I dunno about this! I went back to that link in the first post, and it takes me to a setup page for my account. Nothing else. There is definately no software to download.

Has anybody else tried this, or is it just not available? It asked me for a location when I signed up, and I told it UK - it didn't say anything about anything!?

dont think anyone is missing much with the price tag to come 9.99 want hotmail on the phone then join plus and messenger is in the phone anyway probably the cheapest way would be a link within pie and make a homescreen with links to the various msn parts

Cheers zeta101! Still have no idea of how/where to DL this software! This thread seems to suffer from a complete lack of coherent info!!

Anyway - if its 9.99 per month just to access hotmail on the phone that seems a bit of a waste of time/money, so I'm not too bothered now!

hi there,

when i follow the link on the first page it brings me to the sign up for pocket msn. after that i go through a setup process where i have to define my service (carrier) and the device i am using (ppc/sp). then i can download. i can easily post the application here but it is useless if you dont setup an account. also when i first downloaded it i was not able to install it because of "no sufficient rights". we first had to change the signatures in the application to be able to install it. i dont know if msn has fixed it now (orange dropped a note to them after we told them). so theres just one way: sign up. and if you ask yourself if its worth the money - i would say no, since modaco plus can use pop 3 hotmail, messenger is working anyway, the little butterfly only leads to the pocket pc portal. nothing in there we dont have already. except for one thing: alerts. but i haven't seen one yet...

any questions left? feel free to ask!

cheers, lutz

Weird! I was able to set up an account (did all the stuff you mentioned lutzh, location, carrier etc) & got the alerts - but at no stage was I asked for any money, card details, anything! I recieved sms messages with registration codes for the alerts, and something for my messenger contacts, but there was definately no software to download. If I go back to that page now it has details of my account linked to my passport account. Still no software tho!

Warning!

I signed up for the free 6 month demo but after receiving the confirmation code to my phone, I couldn't get it working so I forgot about it. Over the last week I've received three spam text messages, all telling the beginning of a story, and telling me to reply M for more. Not only do I hate spam text (we get enough e-mail, now they've got my phone too?!?) I wondered how on earth the sender got my phone number as I don't give it out too often.

This evening I've noticed the these spam texts come for the same number (with a different last digit) that my MSN Mobile confirmation code came from. I therefore assume that it's MSN Mobile who's sending these texts.

I have gone to MSN Mobile and deleted my account, which I only hope will stop them sending me rubbish. If it doesn't I will pursue it further.

Has anyone else had this problem?

P.S. For anyone that's interested, I am already signed up with the Telephone Preference Service (http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/ - see section on SMS messages) which is supposed to restrict spam to my mobile. I either must have given my permission for these texts to be sent without realising it, or MSN are breaking the rules.

Pocket MSN came as standard in my Mio 8390 it was in startup, dont use it cos i cant get my connection settings working.

In fact while im here, any1 know why i keep getting this wrror message every 20 - 30 mins.

Error

Unable to connect to network. Please check your dialup or proxy settings are correct and then try again.

I tried to change my settings as the same on the MMS info forum page, and my phone has had the error ever since, even tho i deleted the settings i added.

Any help appreciated,

Westy

Nope. They havent fixed it :? . Any idea how I can "fix" the certificate, so that I can install.

Sadly yes i've been spammed by MSN, i have the ability to setup my own email, addys [email protected] so i setup a temp one to register with any online service within 3 weeks they are normally flooded with 300+ emails a day. You have to be so much more careful with your phone number as its not easy to change!

I cant install it on my upgraded i600 either. Same error during install. The ironic part is this Verizon MSN marriage. They didnt even bother to have the software tested??

This is all a bit of a rip-off...

Until a few weeks ago you could just point your phone at http://mobile.msn.com/pocketpc to get your hotmail. Now all you seem to get is the MSN logo that takes you nowhere when you try to follow the link... :?

Not only that but if you point your phone at the usual www.msn.co.uk the site recognises that you're using a mobile device and once again you no longer see your usual "hotmail" tab to get at your mail.

I too tried signing up for this pocket msn and didn't get any option to d/l software either

This isn't a new service that MSN are offering; it's what they used to offer for free and still do from a PC but have realised they can prob make a mint at from us mobile users :P

Making it worse, not only can I not get to it the way I used to on my i600. I cant get the software that will let me get to it installed because of some signing garbage.

I thought MSN and Verizon had this thing going here. The stupid software wont install on a verizon phone.
