In light of the potential need to HARD BOOT for a variety of different reasons, I am trying to locate the best way to back up my system. Much like I did with my old ipaq PDA, I am trying to back up to a storage card that will retain all settings and applications as they are presently configured.

Any recommendations as to the best utility or procedure to handle this unfortunate need?

You could use Sprite Backup...but i have been informed by awarner that it doesn't work on MPx200

Alternatively there is All-Backup, not sure how

good this is but you can grab the trial from Handango :)

I also heard this application would not work with the mpx200.

I just downloaded the demo version, and on attempting to run was told the application could not run on a locked phone such as mine. Needless to say my phone is fully unlocked. Therefor it looks like it does not work.

I bet I know what you are not doing, you are not turning the phone to airplane mode. It is a protection so it won't try to backup during data change. See if that works. :)

Try it in airplane mode.

I'm getting the same "Sprite Backup for Smartphone cannot run on locked phones such as yours" error, even when I switch to aeroplane mode. My phoned is defintely decerted.

Any other ideas?

TIA.

Go to the Sprite backup forum and post your situation. This seems to started happening after it when final. The beta's didn't do this. Also you could try to reinstall it with the phone in airplane mode. Who knows. I was pretty frustrated until I did the airplane mode thingbecause it worked fine on my other MPX200 with the original ROM.

abatis, where are you located? if you have the AT&T phone this will probably explain why the app works for you as the AT&T phones are not application locked.

Just to follow up, following a hard reset of my phone, I got Sprite working by:

1) Install the non-signed version

2) Install the beta signed version (which comes without the desktop component hence installing the non-signed version first)

This is on my app-unlocked Orange MPx200, so no idea why the non-signed version itself doesn't work.
