Guest ckystu Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Hi guys, I'm hoping you can help!! I'm a complete newbie though! I installed the ActiveSync onto my pc, linked the phone up and worked fine!! Even managed to put an mp3 on my phone!!! woohoo! The next morning i needed to print something, so I disconnnected the phone from the usb and plugged in my printer!! Only have 2 usbs (1 broadband, 1 other). Printed something off and plugged my phone back in. Now it won't recognise it!! Help! I've uninstalled and reinstalled active sync a few times, but still nothing! Active sync starts up but can't find the device! Please help! Cheers guys! Stu :)
Guest martin Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Do you have a firewall activated ? If you do then try disabling it.
Guest ckystu Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Yeah I've turned off my firewall (damn XP!) it was slowing my downloads! Do you think it might be worth formating my computer and reinstalling everything! A bit extreme I know... Any ideas...
Guest danhughes87 Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 just had exactly the same thing happen 2 me twice today, i just did a hard reset on me phone and it worked fine. Then it just happened 1/2 an hour ago i turned pc off then turned phone off turned phone backon again and put it in cradle and turned pc back on and worked fine. Worth a shot. Dan
Guest ckystu Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Thanks Dan! A hard reset?? Looked at the guide.. just take my battery out for 30 seconds while holding the action button?? My phones just been unlocked, this won't screw it will it?
Guest Vector Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Thanks Dan! A http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?p=97945#97945>Hard Reset?? Looked at the guide.. just take my battery out for 30 seconds while holding the action button?? My phones just been unlocked, this won't screw it will it? Do you mean Software unlock to allow you to use unsigned applications or network unlock to allow you to use the phone on different networks? A hard reset will software lock the phone again if you mean that, but if you have sim unlocked then that will stay unlocked  And to hard reset you have to power on by pressing the power button and voice record button at the same time, then when you have powered on you should see a white screen, then hold the action button for 2 secs to enter the menu where you have the option to hard reset...but be warned, you will use all your data with a hard reset as it returns the phone back to the "out-of-the-box-state" :)
Guest squall Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 before hard resetting lets try to sort your issue. Try syncing from a different usb port after restarting both the pc and phone.
Guest ckystu Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Cheers guys. Not really sure about the hard reset. :? The phone is unlocked and allows unsigned programs, also has been sim unlocked. I've also tried to sync the usb connection to my other usb port but still to no avail. If I look at My Computer I can still see the mobile device icon but cannot open. I was thinking of maybe buying a card reader for my pc and doing the mp3s that way. Will the Orange Spv card be recognised with the pc card reader? (and vice versa). Cheers for all the help so far guys... :) Oh, one more really stupid question. And yes I am serious! How do you lock the keypad? I keep making calls while the phone is in my pocket!! (The phone used to be my friends and he's lost the manual and says he can't remember.. believe it or not!)
Guest Vector Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Any SD Card should be recognised with a card reader :) Sounds like a hard reset is your only option to get the phone to sync again tho
Guest squall Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 dab power button then select key lock on smartphone 2002 or hold end call button on wimmobile 2003
Guest ckystu Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Cheers squall!! That should save me some cash now!! :)
