Guest beersoft Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 tired of having to pop your sdcard in and out because the phone forgets about it, take 2 bottles into the shower? try the new and improved Beersoft Interactive "Stupid little app to keep the phone from forgetting about your sd card" application just install the cab and run when you want the sd card not to disapear note: will affect battery life, doesn't remove the need for taking bottles into the shower later Owencardpoll.CAB
Guest Vector Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 I think i will test this and see how much it affects battery life...sometime :) erm, what's with the "2 bottles in the shower" thingamebobby? i don't get it
Guest beersoft Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 it affects batterylife by a fair wack without the sd card you get an average of 50 - 90 mins out of 1 percent of battery With the card in you get 30 to 45 mins with the app running you get about 25 - 35 mins per percent, which sucks with the card in and bluetooth on you get about 25 - 35 mins per percent and david, the two bottles thing, its a sales pitch for the app :) later Owen "too much sugar"

Guest Pondrew Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 This'll be what that guy was asking for to stop his mapopolis crashing. An app to continuously poll the SD card thereby keeping it from going into 'sleep mode' or whatever it's called! Funny really, that an app is needed to undo the battery saving tweak done in the Orange Update!

Or was that remark so sarcastic, I didn't get it?
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Hey thanks, your are a lifesaver :) As for battery I always have the phone on external power when I am in the car as the combination of Backlight always on, Mapopolis talking to me etc kills the battery anyway.
Guest Jasonkruys Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 What makes you think it's a 'battery saving http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=7695>tweak'? Or was that remark so sarcastic, I didn't get it? I believe he may be referring to the fact that this is what the E200 originally did in the orange ROM, and what they stopped it doing in the update to improve battery life. So by making it do it again, you are 'undoing the battery saving tweak (or fix)' as he said
Guest beersoft Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 if you can think of any other 'features' you want me to add let me know. the next 2 things im adding are a quit button and a way to change the poll times, because i think i can get away with polling every 5 or 10 mins. some other ideas i have floating in my head are timed run, so it will run for say an hour after its been on charge or just run for x minuites then quit (it might do that anyway due to the stupid way wm2k3 kills app randomly) any ideas let me know :) later Owen
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Hi there, how about a minimise to tray option :?: I like the thoughts of varying the timings and run for X minutes etc. One big thing if you don't mind... What about an option to have the program run at startup, then have further options to only poll the card when certain applications are running :?: as Betaplayer and Pocketmusic don't suffer from the problem (I assume this is because they are always reading the card) but Mapopolis and I suspect other software only load the required data into memory as and when needed so the next time it goes to refresh the card is not there :?:
Guest MrMagoo Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 if you can think of any other 'features' you want me to add let me know. the next 2 things im adding are a quit button and a way to change the poll times, because i think i can get away with polling every 5 or 10 mins. some other ideas i have floating in my head are timed run, so it will run for say an hour after its been on charge or just run for x minuites then quit (it might do that anyway due to the stupid way wm2k3 kills app randomly) any ideas let me know :) later Owen First - I must be lucky - I don't have this problem at all  Next - Have you investigated this api call SetPowerRequirement ? It is supposed to allow the programmer to request that the power manager keeps a device at the required level - in your case "on"... If this works, it would allow you to make one call , then sleep until you need to release the device and then exit - no polling would be required. As for the problem of the opsys killing your app, don't quote me on this, but if you handle the message (WM_CLOSE i think) in your apps message handler , then you can just "ignore it" - and you will not get killed! Of course you WILL need to have an exit button so that the user can quit the app or you will NOT be popular  But, if I am selling sticks to a lumberjack, just ignore me...

In fact, I'm sure MrMagoo's first attempt to improve battery life by shutting down the sd card had the same 'sd card disappears' problem needing the card to be taken out and put in again.
Guest drblow Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Yeah - sorry, I wasn't being funny or anything! I have had a CS operator try to tell me that the SD card problem was infact a new 'feature' of the update, to save battery life!! :) It's OK tho - I killed him!
Guest beersoft Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 okeydokey i have fixed the "Hi im windows mobile, you look like a nice app, fancy quitting randomly" bug, and added a quit button, and a nuffin button (which does nothing, but with poor diction) and now it polls every 5 mins have fun :) later Owencardpoll.CAB
Guest meatgrinder Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 lol, nice app beersoft, i will have to download it, jsut for the nuffin button :) Dave
Guest beersoft Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 the test results are in (and its not infected :D ) it works !!! (you can't be any more supprised than i am about that) and it also doesn't kill the battery as much as i thought it would, its about 1% - 2% worse than just having the sd card in , and my phone did less random crashing as well yay, i rock later Owen
Guest Cybertronic Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 Do I have to open the application whenever I turn the phone on in order to make the SD card readable all the time? or once its installed you don't have to do anything?
Guest beersoft Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 you have to run the program every time you want the sdcard to behave, i personaly have it running all the time, and put a shortcut to it in the start menu later Owen
Guest Thurstan Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Easy, yeah an all that Y'know when you've got a shortcut in startup etc, every time I turn the phone on it comes up with the card poll app... is this right or what? And do I then just press 'QUIT'?
Guest beersoft Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 nonononononon! push the home key, quit quits. later Owen
Guest Cybertronic Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Erm I'm really confused :? Since this application is in the startup, can I just leave it there without opening the application when I turn on the phone to start polling? or does it do itself in the startup sequence? (and so on for 5 minutes) Sorry!
Guest beersoft Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 you have to keep the app running for it to work, if you quit it stops working later Owen
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Just to let everyone know I have loaded the 2.7.1.1 Orange Rom and I have been using my card for 6 hours non stop so it looks like the problem is fixed. Thanks for the app Beersoft, it was a lifesaver.
