Right, first things first.

I can't connect orange spv to computer, I've finally given up. I think it may be the connections cos I have to wiggle (technical term) the handset in the cradle to get it charging.

Now that I've given up, can someone tell me if the following would work:

I'm gonna buy a 128mb sd card and a card reader for my pc.

If I just drag mp3's and games onto the card using the card reader, will the orange spv phone recognise these files??

I thought I'd ask before I go and buy everything and it doesn't work, it's the usually the way!!

Cheers for helping meguys. This forum is great!!! :)

As far as the MP3s go, simply dragging them across to the card should be ok. When i put music onto my MPx200 through the USB cradle, all i do is drag the Mp3s across from PC into the Storage Card folder and i have no problems so in theory that part should be ok. As for games, i guess it would depend on the game itself, most apps and games generally seem to come with a PC based installer package that requires the phone to be connected via Active Sync to the PC so.....hopefully someone else can carry on from me?

Also, i know it may be a stupid stupid question, but i take it you have installed ActiveSync?

Yeah. I've got the latest version of Activesync installed (from the microsoft site). It boots up but won't find the 'device'. It searches all the com ports etc, but no luck!!

Great pic flicker. Bought the double dvd set yesterday!! £15.99 in Smiths.. Bargain!!! :)

I thought the card idea would work.. in theory!!! lol!

Hehe...glad to see someone else is a Spaced fan! Bloody double set cost me £29.99 about a year and a half ago you lucky git! Sorry can't be anymore helpful but i'm sure someone else will pop their head in at some point. People are really helpful around here. Am also going to try and make a Spaced skin/homescreen for phone soon so keep an eye out for that.

Try uninstalling/reinstalling activesync and hen try plugging the cradle in with

the phone plugged into the cradle :)

If that doesn't work try to plug the cradle into a different USB port...and if that doesn't work

you may be looking at a hard reset

You will need to have your phone synced to install most games/apps, but a few of them come in the .cab format..

If you have a .cab, drag and drop it onto the storage card via the card reader and then stick the card in the phone and use smart explorer to explore to the storage card on the phone and run the .cab, but i do recommend getting activesync sorted

One way round this, is to run the PC based installer (even though the phone is not conneceted), then, on your PC look in Program Files, Microsoft ActiveSync, and then look for a folder name related to the app/game you'd like to install. In there you'll find the cab file, copy the cab onto your SD card, then using a file explorer on your phone, navigate to the cab file and it will install from there :)

(Some cabs get extracted into the relevant folder directly in Program Files on your PC, rather than Microsoft ActiveSync Folder within Program Files - hope this makes sense  )

I've just realised that i wanted to ask a general question about SD cards too, so rather than start a new topic i will post here. Hopefully someone can help....basically i just wondered why the actual amount of storage space on an SD Card doesn't quite match up to what it is supposed to be? For instance, on my 64MB card the actual amount of storage is 59.5MB and on my 128MB the actual amount is 122.4MB? I know it's a bit of a random question but why is this? Would buying an SD reader help in anyway...i.e being able to format the card?

I know it's probably not a huge issue but i just wondered why there is less than there actually says there is...i mean that's a few extra songs you could get on there!!

Also, would getting a card reader speed up the process of transferring MP3s from my PC to the card, because it seems to take a fair old while especially if you're transferring say 100MB of music across. Anyways, thanks in advance people.

I think it's because the actual size of a mb is 1024 kb and not 1000 kb or something like that :)

and also some is taken up by system files

If they are .cab files, explore via activesync to IPSM(Storage if using WM2003)WindowsStart MenuAccessories and drop the files there.

Now on your phone run the .cab..

If they are .exe, just run it from the PC and it should install automatically :)

Cheers guys. You really saved my bacon. Still can't get the phone to sync (I'm gonna buy a new cable, think the old one is screwed) but I went and bought a 128mb card and card reader. I drop and drag the files, place the card in my phone.. and voila My phone now has all my Rancid mp3 on it!! Woohoo!! Thanks again guys! :)
