Guest mephisto1337 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 hi members, I have a few questions: 1. Anyone knows if the SPV E200 supports Bluetooth Class I.?Thats the 100 meter range Class of bluetooth. The normal bluetooth Class II is 10 Meter. 2. When will the drivers be available for Wifi SD Cards??? 3. Is there a way to remove the orange logo on the front right above the screen on the phone without damaging it to much? Thnx allot and greetz, Mephisto
Guest Vector Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Hi, Welcome to the Site! 1. The E200 only goes up to about 5-10m at the most... 2. No-body knows if they will... 3.Not tried it...there may have been a post a while back where someone did it, but i may be wrong... :)
Guest SimFan Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 It is correct that in-house the E200 can only receive a CLASS I-100m signal to around 5-10m. But outside (laptop) it will work for at least 50m. I did quite some testing with that. I use the Sitecom BT CLASS I USB stick.
Guest blewer Posted June 6, 2004 Report Posted June 6, 2004 I don't think it has anything to do with what dongle you have as the E200's bluetooth will only work to around 10 metres. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest SimFan Posted June 6, 2004 Report Posted June 6, 2004 I don't know either. The only thing I am sure of is that it does work (outside the house) to at least 50m. This is a fact. If I check the BT signal strength when distance > 5m, it is weak (almost bare minimum) but it keeps on working much further. Both incoming and outgoing signals work. BTW my E200 has been bought back in january, so it is hardly a new SPV model (BT support) design.
Guest Vector Posted June 6, 2004 Report Posted June 6, 2004 Are you sure you aren't connecting to anyone elses Bluetooth nearby? hehe :)
Guest ajb3000 Posted June 6, 2004 Report Posted June 6, 2004 I get coverage all over my house with a 100m dongle, it even works going through 2 walls, a floor and a distance of about 8 - 9m. Quite surprising really. I use the Linksys USBT100 dongle if anyones interested.
Guest SimFan Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 I get about the same coverage as abj3000. The (Sitecom) dongle has an external (black plastic) antenna. (It is also quite big compared to some very small, cheap BT sticks.) Maybe that is an explanation. Don't forget we have a mix here. If one of both sides (USB BT dongle) has a far better transmitter/receiver, can't that be a possible improving factor ?
Guest ajb3000 Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 My Linksys has an external black plastic antenna as well. http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpag...html?LIN-USBBT1. Also it seems to do the same as yours, from about 5 - 6m away (direct line of site), it displays 2 bar signal strength, yet stays like that for quite some distance.
Guest SimFan Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 - It seems to me that the BT monitor (PC) simply can't measure/show (because of the scale factor) a very low strength signal. - One thing I do know for sure... mine does NOT work at 100m. It does to around 50m if nothing blocks the signal's way. In that, a BT signal seems to resemble an FM signal (also blocked-reduced by vast amounts of concrete etc.). - Also, walking aroung (causing signal fluctuation) with the E200 sometimes causes signal loss in my case. - Parallel tasks and switching between Browser and Messenger often can/will also cause a problem. So it sure seems to be either Messenger or Browsing the Web. Stopping one before starting the other session (or maybe I am missing something).
Guest t12345uk Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 5metres? I have had 2 SPV E200's and barely get 1metre with a Sony Ericsson HBH65 headset. I know its not the headset thats faulty as I have tested it witha P800. Also there is a post on this forum that says that Orange have admitted to problems with the bluetooth range. Yet they deny it when I ask them. Is there any sort of registry hacks to boost BT power even if it means less battery life.
Guest ajb3000 Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 With my Plantronic M3000 headset (a class II 10m device), I can only get a clear audio signal up to 4 - 5 metres away (direct line of sight). I also noticed that it cannot go through flesh very well at all, for example, holding my phone on the other side of my body to the headset caused interference. FYI, SonyEricsson headsets are notorious for their short range.

Have you had any problems installing and so on? I know many have had problems with the pairing TKJ
Guest t12345uk Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 So how come I get 5 - 8 metres range on the Sony Ericsson P800/Z600, 3 different nokia's, samsungs, etc. We do mobile content at my work so have loads of fones laying around.

I know many have had problems with the pairing TKJ I had no problems installing or searching for devices, and it supports pretty much all bluetooth profiles available. The only issue I did have was getting Activesync to work over Bluetooth, but I think this is more to do with Activesync than the Dongle. The only downside is that it's more expensive than most other dongles.

Guest ajb3000 Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Yes I did get Activesync working in the end, I found a guide on here somewhere to getting it working, can't remember what I did now though. It syncs, transfers files, surfs the net using my PCs internet connection and everything perfectly all over the house :)
Guest SimFan Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 FWIW... the Sitecom BT USB dongle was installed on WinXP SP1 and Win Me (laptop) without any problem. I was expecting some problems and was surprised how easy installation and configuration went. Maybe I got lucky. Again, the range of this Sitecom BT stick is at least 5-10m, under all circumstances (even thru a wall).

Therefore we can assume that the headset mode has been set to use less power than the other modes hence the short range. Maybe they set the power a smidgen too low causing all these problems.
