Hello, I received my SPV original today which i got off ebay and are having a few problems with it.

The first thing is that theres no start menu / shortcuts displayed on the home screen? or the bits saying how many sms's/emails you have?

The other thing is that the phones stuck on "headset" profile and i cannot select any other profile at all?

The last thing is that it keeps saying to turn off aeroplane but i cannot find any settings for this?

Thanks, Mat

I have an E200 so im not sure if these are the same on your phone, but if you go to the settings option, then homescreen, and choose the windows default layout, that will give you the sms counter etc. To turn off flight mode press the power button to bring up the quicklist, and select flight/aeroplane mode, this should turn that off. To change the profile you can press the power button again and select a profile from the quicklist.

My first guess is that someone has tried to put the 2003 ROM onto the phone. If so, you've bought yourself a brick

I hope I'm wrong on this for your sake.

The reason is that the aeroplane mode was called Radio On / Off on the earlier OS. You press the power button on the side once quickly to bring up the menu to change this.

This might also explain why the homescreen doesn't work. The main phone memory was called IPSM on the SPV but is now known just as Storage. Hence the file path is different for the software. Which homescreen / skin are you using ?

Getting stuck in headset profile is a known bug but is fixable. Try blowing sharply down the socket to reset the switch. A matchstick might work as an alternative. Seriously, this is the way to solve this problem.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on

If you have not already done so I would be tempted to do a hard reset (search for instructions). You just don't know what kind of mess the previous owner has left behind otherwise.

That should start you with a default home screen and on the normal profile.

Welcome to the site :)

The best thing is to get your money back, the problem with

headset profile problem is that it is hardware related and any

fix is normally only temperary if you continue to use the

headphones.

But agree with the above, a Hard Reset is the best thing to do

with a new phone.

Thanks for the quick replies!!!

Iv sorted the profile thing out with a prod down the socket! But what is the chance of it staying on completely one day?

And after trying every skin on the phone iv finally found one that will display shortcuts and the sms info.

Thank god!!!!

Is there any risk in doing a hard reset as i don't want to turn it into a door stop!

Thanks, Mat

A Hard reset is the best thing you can do with a secondhand phone as it gets all the previous junk off the phone.

what happens is it returns the phone back to it's factory defaults so you will need to Sync with Outlook to put your contacts on and install any software you want.

The two main apps for me are Smart Explorer and Task Manager available from www.binarys.com
