My 8390 came by FedEX this mornning. I got the unlocked phone from X1387. I have an old Sony ericcson T68 with Tmobile. I took the working sim from the T68 and put It In the 8390 and I get no service. I went under the phone network settings and set It to manual but I still got no service. It also won't allow me to select a network. Under preferred networks I have about 14 T mobiles checked off but I still get no sevice. I saw one thread a user stated that he/she changed the band, but I see no menu function to do this. I'm In New York by the way. Any help In this matter would greatly be appreciated.

You have to change your band to 1900.

Click Start, then open the Accessories folder. There should be an icon in Chinese (Black icon with red and yellow coming out like waves). Change the band there to 1900 and reboot.

I really don't think this setting would have any effect on messaging applications, as this just controls the voice band.

The setting depends on which region of the world you are using the phone in. If you are in North America, it should be set to 1900, if you are in Europe or Asia, it should be set to 900/1800.

I hope this helps.
