Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 OK, so i'm not sure if this is news, maybe it's the best kept Smartphone secret in the world, or maybe I don't read my own forum enough... :-P Anyhoo, I have suffered chronically since the E200 launch with the infamous 'SD card bug'. If you haven't experienced it, it's where the SD card becomes unavailable after about 10 minutes inactivity, and can only be reactivated by reinserting. Anyhoo, I was surfing around the site earlier, and saw someone make a passing comment about how it was fixed for them by reformatting the card with Binarys Task Manager. Of course, I figured this was too good to be true, but since I was reinstalling everything on a new phone, I thought i'd try it. It only worked! Same 256MB SanDisk SD, reformatted using SP Task Manager, so far (touch wood) no problems. It's fixed! :D Party! P
Guest drblow Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Em ... I hate to be the spoiler here, but that aint worked for me m8! The card I'm using ATM is the 32MB Toshiba card I was sent with my last replacement e200. It had the packet video stuff on it, so I figured I'd format it with binarys task manager, to test if the card would make any difference to the bug. No joy - its actually been worse since doing that than my previous Lexar SD card. (EDIT - even using beersofts polling app) Sorry m8, but this one seems to be as random as the SD card bug itself - it won't work for everybody! :D
Guest JRC Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 It is ridiculous, the problem is related to driver HTC of SD port ! I do not see how a problem of power supply perhaps corrected just with a formatting... The latest Orange ROM 2.7.x.x (only in beta-test) corrects this bug besides !
Guest drblow Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Hang on a minute - latest Orange ROM in beta testing!!  After I've just posted a cynical dismissal of the possibility of another e200 update ever!!?? Damn! :D So, it addresses the SD card bug then, does it? Humph!
Guest pisquee Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 A point of interest... am using an 128MB MMC and have no problems, is anyone having problems with MMCs or is it just SDs?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Wrong, the latest beta update STILL has the bug! P
Guest JRC Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 My latest version doesn't have this bug ! On the 2.6 ROM, the SD card was not recognized after 10 minutes but since this new version 2.7 (Orange ROM Beta test !) it's OK !
Guest mavisdavis Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 How can 2.7 be a beta update when new phones have it on already. 3 peopl at work have all got it and only 1 did the 2.6.13 (whateva) update and killed his phone before the solution came about. None of them have reported the bug to myself (then again they're all to tight to shell out for software) to install.. I'll keep ya posted
Guest JRC Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 The phones with 2.7 are a error, the last official version is 2.6.x.x ! The 2.7.x.x is the beta version that all.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 2.7 beta (the very latest) I have definitely still has this problem. P
Guest kevlar Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Does the latest beta rom have the dreaded ' I refuse to work with a plantronics m3000 ' bug? Kevlar
Guest manzonie08 Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Which marks your SD :?: My english is very bad :D
Guest beersoft Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 it seems every man and his dog has this beta, and im feeling left out :D on my phone it sometimes works, sometimes doesnt (e200 with 2.6.1.3 and a 256meg sdultra2 card) on the way to work it forgot the sd card after 10 mins, but on the way home (via bedford) its remembered it from 3 pm till now. i think its another one of the 'random colour of your pant' related features, or just rubish sd socket drivers later Owen "still testing"
Guest mavisdavis Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Dont feel left out Beer. Ive had my phone replaced this weekend and didnt get the newer update on it. It just seems to be new contract phones at the moment
Guest Vector Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 I formatted with an app called Flash format for Pocket PC after Orangesp said it sured his problems, first time it didn't do anything, but second time it seems to have cured my problems too :? Just have to wait and see if it forgets it again... BTW, i have a Sandisk 512mb SD Card :D
Guest nato Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Paul, I take it you have task manager installed to phone.? Which App are you using to test your theory that it works ? Has the problem occured today? - I am considering the upgrade again and will do if it manages to go a day without 'forgetting'! - so would appreciate some feedback on this
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Still working fine for me, not one failure yet! Latest Task Manager beta from http://www.binarys.com installed to Phone. P
Guest mavisdavis Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Paul I formatted this morning and all day it's been the same. Can't find Eclipse. please make sure the path is correct. I'm on the 1.6 rom. Yet when I had card poll on yesterday i never had a problem at all. guess whats going back on tonight.Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest nato Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Oooohhhh Noooooo Upgraded to new ROM this afternoon. Installed SP task manager to phone. Formatted SD card TWICE just to be sure.(using SP TA) Then installed Chess to SD card. Guess wot...Yep...Phone has locked up once (had to remove battery) and lost SD card when trying to start game of chess. Paul, I think its coincidental m8 ! - time will tell I s'pose !
Guest drblow Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Well, I reinstalled task manager, to be sure I had the same latest version as Paul was using. Then reformatted SD card, and reinstalled stuff on it. Still no change, still freezing up & not recognising SD card unless re-inserted. Unfortunately, I think this fix may work for some, but not for everybody. I agree with Beersoft - it's a colour of pants/day of the week ratio problem! :D
Guest beersoft Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 okey dokey doo, i have been doing some testing today (testing = leaving the sd card in and waiting for the phone to crash) i left my card in all day, and my phone has crashed alot :D smartexplorer 2 final doesn't forget about the sdcard but won't initalise it when the card has gone to sleep, if you try and browse to storage card it hangs the phone untill you eject the card. tomorrow, im going to run the same tests but run my cardpoll app later Owen
Guest sgannon Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Formatted my 256MB Sandisk SD a couple of hours ago and it hasn't vanished yet. Very unusual! Seems promising so far, let's see what tomorrow brings.
Guest dt_bogor Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 just curious but is the new 2.7.?.? ROM available to download anywhere?
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Very weird this :? Recently upgraded to an E200, used my original card from my E100 loads of grief (before I read these articles and realised there was a bug) Bough a new card 1.0Gb Sandisk, formatted this through my card reader, transferred all the data and everything was fine. Received a replacement handset from Orange and I though I would see what happened, I did nothing for a day and everything was fine. Decided to reload properly as everything appeared ok and formatted my card through Task Manager as described, reloaded all my apps and data 600Mb and I have the problem worse than before  it wont even last 5mins before it looses the card  But the strangest thing of all  when my phone is in the cradle I.E. on external power everything is fine. I suspect that the power saving bug only happens when the phone is running on battery power :!:
