For wav file ringtone (don't know about MIDI ringtones):

Press the explore button in Activesync and navigate to IPSMApplication DataSounds

If the sounds folder isn't there then create one by right clicking and choosing new folder.

After you drop your wav file there it will appear in the ringtone list.

Magic , i was thrown off the scent because i couldn't find a folder to put them .Simple when you know how.
