I think I missed something In the manual......

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. It seems when my 8390 Is on and the clam shell Is open It's fine. the second I close the lid and the lcd and keypad lights go out. I could see the darkened home page but I can't bring the phone back to a operating status. all the keypad keys are locked and the lcd stay's dark. I have to take out the battery to hard reset the phone. even when I get a call It won't let me answer, every thing stays locked. I thought It was a power management issue, but I've tried the selections In the pm menu. The phone won't come on when I open the flip or press and hold any key.
