Simply put, to be nominated for moderator status you have to show commitment to the site by helping other members on a regular basis and help to uphold the rules and the community spirit. Unfortunately not everyone can become a moderator, as they are only selected when we feel there is a need or an existing mod retires. The role of a moderator is to continue with the above, but with the added responsibility of helping the running of the site. This covers things from removing rule infringing posts, eg links or files that are releated to piracy or warez, to diffusing any personal attacks between members (this normally only happens with newer members who do not understand the rules). Moderators can edit or delete posts, and also issue warnings and bans. :D
