Guest flammable Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 Hi, I use my phone's (dopod 515) internet quite alot and GPRS is WAY too expensive. I was wondering if I could use GSM dial-up for it because that only seems to cost 10p a min from orange. At the moment, the GSM connects but I can't visit any webpages because it says something like "No Page Found" and on msn it says "Unable to connect. Please Verify You are connected to the internet". Does anyone know how to get it running so it's just like GPRS?
Guest martin Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Yes, you can also use a GSM dialup for the Orange WAP service. You may need change the settings slightly. WAP Dial-up connection Description: Orange CSD WAP Connects to: The Internet Country Code: 44 Area Code: 7973 Phone Number: 100500 User Name: Orange Password: Multimedia Proxy Connection Description: Orange proxy Orange WAP Proxy Connects from: The Internet Connects to: WAP Network Proxy: 192.168.71.35:8080 Type: HTTP In Data connctions make 'WAP network: Orange CSD WAP' In Internet Explorer goto Menu-Settings-Options, untick 'auto detect settings' and make 'Select Network:WAP network'. * If you want IE to use the GPRS connection then manually change it to 'Select network: The internet'. The WAP service is not FULL internet so expect some restrictions to apply and also the data rate be slower than your GPRS connetcion. MSN messenger won't work with the WAP dialup but then again I wouldn't recommend using Messenger (or browsing WML text pages) on the GSM dialup as the actual data transfer is very low and therfore it is better to use GPRS. The internet connection should stay as Orange GPRS for Messenger, E-mail, etc. Hope it helps :D
