Guest crafty Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 Sounds like a nice idea. I think that most people will welcome any new programs that people have to offer - especially if they are freeware :D
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 Looks nice, but you'll need to take into account all the features of Smart Explorer to make it attractive to current users. Good luck mate :D
Guest blewer Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 I agree, it looks good. Quite different to other start menus which keeps it interesting :D
Guest mattweb Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 thanks for the fast replys. yep i know, theres some good programs out there for the smartphone, and i think i would have to do something special to contend with the likes of smart explorer... well im going to try and get just the start menu sorted for now, and see what you all think... then i can go ahead and add the explorer. ( its all going to be freeware, im doing this all for the good of the community:) ) cya. matt
Guest beersoft Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 YES!!!!!! i think a nice graphical start menu would rock, something along the lines of good old program manager (note for the kids: something back in the good old days) would rock :D later Owen
Guest muzzio_giovanni Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 this is a reay good and wonderfull idea ,when i bougth my mpx200 i would like to find in it a smart explorer like that but nothing no if you can do it for me is realy a dream so i'm waiting for your news
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 You've already made a great start mattweb, looking fantastic. :D
Guest nedge2k Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Mate this looks cool!!!! First idea: Cut, copy, paste, delete of shortcut links/folders. These options could be in a separate "EDIT" popup menu. Second: As well as view/colur change, background image change? Jus a little bit of code the lets you search for an image to use as the backgound. Third: Folder icon change. With the current start menu, if you put a file in a folder called "icon.lnk" and with notepad edit it so that it points to an app/icon resource with different icons in it, you can change the folder's icon. Any chance of a bit of code let will let you explore an app/icon resource for icons and then assign them? Also, how about different icons for when the folder is selected/unselected and the ability to use animated icons for when they are selected? I cant wait for this app!! :D/ :D/ :lol:/ :D/
Guest mattweb Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 ive just been playing around with the embedded C and eVB programs to see what can be done, and ive realised that it may take a while (for me) to get this done..but im going to try my best to get it sorted :D thanks for the feedback.. nedge2k cheers for the ideas!im gonna try and get them put into the program when i get started. and about the customisable icons, i was thinking about going along the lines of windows xp where you have a "Desktop.ini" file to save settings for the folder.but im not to sure about the animated icons yet.. but ill have a bit of an experiment and see what i can do though ive got to admit aswell i was a bit disapointed when i found out that you cant change the way the start menu is shown..but ill hopefully change that :D keep the ideas coming.. later. matt ***btw...the pictures above are just from a prototype design in flash...i should have mentioned it before..but i forgot  sorry if they are a bit misleading
Guest Cybertronic Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Can't wait for this! :D, I've always wanted a Symbian style menu
Guest nedge2k Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 /me slaps woon Thats a dirty word on this forum :D Besides...its not s**bian...its like a pc explorer
Guest Cybertronic Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 My bad! :D Saves having to scroll througg alot of programs hehe :D Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest kvl Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Wow, what a great idea, something which I think will enable people to customize their phone more so, keep it up...
Guest zeta101 Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 i think this is a brilliant idea...one thing i think would be good is to allow people to have full control of what is in the start menu and what order they are in. Also having it memory resident with the icons loaded at all times (like surreal start) would be good too.
Guest mattweb Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Woon, you gave me an idea, to have the choice to have either a full start menu, or a cut down version similar to the s**bian menu.although windows mobile version would of course be better :D yep i think complete customisation should have been included from the start by microsoft. i think that was one of the major let downs of smarphone 2002 for me. zeta, full control is a good idea, and ill have to look into how to change the order of them over next weekend ill try and get myself ready to begin making the program, and hopefully, but not promising, it should be ready for release during/towards the end of summer. so looking at august/september time if all goes well... later, matt.

Guest drblow Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Oh! Whatever happened to this I wonder ...
Guest nedge2k Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Thats a damn good question Dr. B. :)
Guest g4mb17 Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 no where near as cool, but something i threw together and use: http://homepages.inspire.net.nz/~gambit/AbstractStart/ as you can see the MSN theme doesn't really suit it :-) riki PS the handy thing about abstactstart is it reorders the menu, like the XP start menu, so the most used things are on the first screen, saves me from manually moving things round, which i find *damn* handy.2003newlayout.gif
