Guest Fat Freddys Cat Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 Hi everyone, hoping someone can help me here after over a year of trouble-free SPV usage! Last week, I was abroad and had an, ahem, voltage incident while charging my phone, and the screen went blank. At first I thought I'd fried it, but when I restarted it, everything seemed normal. Until I got this message: Invalid or missing SIM card. If the problem persists, contact your customer service centre for assistance. Much sobbing and gnashing of teeth - the SIM is there, and firmly seated. Upon my return I phoned Orange, who recommended I switch the network selection to manual as this fixes the problem 99% of the time. It didn't. Another symptom I've found is that the phone now only switches on if the power is plugged in. Apart from these two things, everything is normal - the programs work, it syncs, everything. I've done a hard reset by the way, that didn't help. I've tried it with other SIM cards - nada - but my SIM works in other phones. I've tried the battery from another SPV, that didn't fix the turning on problem. Any ideas? Please help if you can!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 Sounds like it's time for a repairreplacement :D If your phone only works when the charer is plugged in it sounds like you have damaged the battery charger circuitry. The only thing to try is a hard reset but it may be beyond it :D
Guest Fat Freddys Cat Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 No, that's the funny thing, it only needs the charger plugged in to switch on - it works fine unplugged after that. It charges ok too - though now I remember, the charging light doesn't come on for more than a few seconds now - but it does charge to 100% with the light off :? And like I said, I have done a hard reset, it didn't help. I am due an upgrade, but I (snif) loved that phone dammit, I hate to see it leave the world like this. It's so young, Doc! It deserves so much more! :D
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 last resort is to try and runre-run the latest 1.6 update
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Re the error message... Sometimes I also get those error messages e.i. when switching Radio Profile (from Airplane Mode On-Off-On). I just take off the battery for a couple of seconds, snap it on again then power on the unit. You may consider reflashing as mentioned by awarner. :D Posted from my SmartPhone!
