Guest BigRD Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 I've had the E200 for 2 weeks and everything about it has been great....until Wednesday 9/6/04 when it stopped connecting to GPRS. I live in a strong signal area and have the G symbol at the top of the screen. When I try IE the G appears above the signal strength and the word connecting appears....then the G disappears and is replaced by an aerial. I then get No Network coverage etc. Orange have told me that there is nothing wrong with the coverage. I spent an hour on the phone talking through setting up GPRS manually and automatically with no joy. The guy said he'd have to phone me back....that was over 2 days ago. Any help would be most appreciated
Guest drblow Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 that happens to me alot, but is remedied by a reboot. clumsy workaround i know, but its the only thing that works for me. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest BigRD Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Thanks for your reply. By rebooting did you mean switch off and back on? I've done that so many times I've lost count and it doesn't help. If I change the connection to Orange ResetGPRS instead of OrangeGPRS I can connect but I can't get my Your Page to loadand all settings are lost everytime I disconnect. This is a right pain
Guest BigRD Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Humble pie being consumed at the moment. Orange CS/TS have phoned twice since my original post and cured the problem. Solution = Turn Flight mode on then off = cured. :D Don't think I'd ever come up with that one. Thanks for your help.
Guest malcolmgirling Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I often get this problem. Despite what Orange staff tell me it seems that that problem is often a lack of GPRS coverage. Despite turning phone off/on and doing both soft and hard resets nothing works. Then, miraculously, after several days, I will find that GPRS is working again. Have never tried turning flight mode off/on but will try it on the next occasion the problem occurs!
Guest BigRD Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 malcolmgirling It's happened another once since my last post so I changed to Flight Mode and back off and hey presto GPRS. Been ok today. Crap workaround though as it just shouldn't be doing it. I agree that it's probably down to GPRS coverage.
Guest malcolmgirling Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 BigRD Before I got the E200 I had a Nokia 7650 - also a WAP-based phone with GPRS. I had similar problems accessing GPRS - often not available for several days despite resetting the phone numerous times. Have you had a GPRS phone before and, if so, did you experience similar problems?
Guest BigRD Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 malcolmgirling I had/have a Panasonic GD87 and only used GPRS very occasionally because I felt the Wap browsing was rubbish. Hence going for the e200 which I like very much as it has IE. If I remember correctly my Nokia 6210 was poor too. I kept shying away from Windows based phones but they are so flexible and support is growing rapidly so much so I reckon they'll take over.
Guest malcolmgirling Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 BigRD What sort of GPRS package do you use? I have the Open Access Pack (formerly called the WAP Access Pack). By changing a few settings on the phone I can browse the Internet for free! You cannot do this with any GPRS Bundle or with the Orange World Access Pack. If you don't have the Open Access Pack it is too late to buy it as it is no longer available. But Orange still make it available to customers that already have it.
Guest BigRD Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 Pity I just changed to the 3MB bundle. I had already switched off the Wap access a couple of months ago as the Panny wasn't that good at it. So when I got the E200 as a free upgrade I took the 3 Meg bundle and reduced my talk time. So what's the trick you use?
