Guest sadistsly Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 just thought this post is really needed as i cant find a post addressing this issue placed by the people who run this site so just a chance to speak ya mind on this issue. For those who might not off noticed at the moment if u are to post the name of a game that is copyrighted, that name will be removed from your post without you being consulted. Why??? i hear you ask, well the managment of this site feel that by any of us mentioning the name of a game that is copyrighted, abandonware etc. this will encourage people to perform illegal activities with the mentioned game/software. Your Post will be edited and have names removed even without any direct mentioning of illegal activitys what so ever, so the moderators have the right to edit all kinds of stuff as this is a very flexible ruling and has been put to effect in all kinds of context. This also hasnt been discussed with you the users it has been decided internelly and by the look of it there is no intention to review this disscisson or ask you for your opinion, so please post your thoughts and feelings here so the mods and staff will have to take them into account. You all have the freedom of speech, so use it to defend it.
Guest kurtfhouse Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 I think when its YOUR site (which it aint) you have the right to total freedom of speech. If you want to use someone elses and their arse is on the line legally, you follow their rules or go somewhere else, but frankly you won't find anywhere better so just put up and shut up. This topic has got boring, rules are there and they are easy to understand.
Guest beersoft Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 if this site was MoDaCo Emulators talk of games would be great, but as this is a smartphone site its fair to say talk about all things non smartphone are off topic. my view on the topic that spawned this topic is: talk about the emulator not the games it emulates. and i don't belive that you have permision from the publisher of whatever game your talking about to dump the roms, so the rom files your talking about are warez and talking about that type of thing here is against the rules. if you are developing say a platform game in the style of mario or sonic it would be ok to talk about it within the realms of "my new game im coding is in the game play style of mario 3 but has a big fighty robot as the good guy and looks a bit like metroid/robocop/batman" if you don't like the rules, soya, don't let the door smack you on the ass on the way out later Owen
Guest martin Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Game Name Censorship & Your Freedom Of SpeechFreedom of speech or freedom to break the forum rules ? So far its unanimous, sadistsly should setup and finance his own ROM discussion forum and we can get back to peace and harmony at MoDaCo
Guest nedge2k Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 TBH i think if we just ignore idiots like plog and sadistsly, they will eventually shut up and go away.
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 I agree, but people need to know that rights and freedoms are worthless without responsibility. That balance is essential for life in any situation and those bleating on about freedom of speech ought to be aware of that.
Guest plog Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 yeah idiots like me will watch out for idiots like you, more specificly, your email address if you decide to buy our emulator, and charge and extra £5 by mistake - now, you wouldnt want to go and do a silly thing like pirate our emulator now would you.... pratt. Martin L King musta been an idiot too huh.... responsibility IS the key, so is contextural content; but you read that before you opened your fat mouth didnt you.... It doesnt matter what platform we speak of you single-minded fool, i was talking about games in general - LOOK YOU SAID BATMAN, oopsy, film, game, game character..... see how stupid it is, youve already broken the very rule youre professing to support..... Like i said ... pratt..... In your swift attempt ro riducule, you made yourself break the very thing midnight said NOT to... NO GAME CHARACTERS, that infers use of a ROM here. Buck up pal, reality check.... you just bit yourself. ROBOCOP - Opps, Another game, game character and film..... its available as a d64 ROM... are you inferring use of a rom there ? Midnight told you you shouldnt do that *SPANK SPANK* oh is little kiddies botty sore now ? starting to realise why game and character name censorship is a bad thing ? you couldnt have said what you did without using those words, or even described what they were or what you were refering to.... Tried it, tested it, Midnight did his job and removed it ..... welcome to the real world dork. BUT HANG ON youre about to say, IN THIS CONTEXT IT OK - ahhhh i see, yeah tried that, posted that several times, contextural content, but dorks just ignored that and called me for it anyway.... midnight again removed it....... so no, youre not clear there..... so if he leaves your post in tact, it becomes victimisation on me rather than a global adherance of a rule which as you all say is SO EASY TO FOLLOW. DUH !
Guest nato Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Mmm - Someone got outa bed the wrong side !!! :D
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Plog, play nice, and respect your fellow forum members. Post moved to Off Topic. P
Guest drblow Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 :D :D  What a load of arse! :D I think maybe if you guys had taken a little time to look at this forum, you'd see we have a nice, friendly community going on here. Freedom of speech is held in the most high esteem on this forum, and it is practiced daily by thousands of members. Your little rant really doesn't reflect the feelings of any other community members, or anybody at all as far as we can tell from the total lack of support you seem to be getting! It was pretty funny tho, so thanks for that! :D So, freedom of speech is one thing, but can you feel the power of democracy at work here!!?? The majority seem to think that it is infact YOU who is in the wrong. How does that grab ya for freedom of speech, eh?? :D Now, run along & excercise your freedom of speech somewhere that somebody cares!! :D P.S. & really, threatening to charge someone an extra £5?? If you are actually in business & trying to sell a product to the smartphone market, do you honestly think that coming here & making statements like that is good marketing!?
Guest nedge2k Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Er....not that i'd ever want "your" emulator but you do realise that if you did charge me an extra five quid that you either: a)be guilty of false advertising and therefore i'd take you to court or b)be guilty of credit card card fraud for which i'd not only take you to court but also report you to the fuzz As for me being a pratt...well, as i've said before, everyone's entitled to their own opinion...even tw*ts like you. Hey, what do i care....your prob jus some twelve year old kid acting the big man and even if you aint...i bet you still live with your parents :D
Guest goinnuts Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 quick q. when you buy a game, do you own that game, or do buy a licence to play the game? thanx mark.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 A license to use the game. As with all (in general, closed source) software.
Guest midnight Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 Yeh, just a license, the copyright holder still owns the game. This is how they can put down the rules and you have to stick by them. (Regarding roms.... has anyone ever found in a eula the part that says 'you are allowed to make a backup copy', cos i'll bet it will be hard to find one single game that has that in there :D) And chill out with the abusing each other guys, this topic is VERY close to being locked.
