Guest coolstream Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I unlocked my mpx200 (branded AT&T with an O2 sim) and all appeared to go well in that I was then able to access the phone. However, the phone continues to show 'No Service' with the sim inserted. I was about to give up when a friend who has an Orange sim visited. We inserted his sim and the phone works perfectly and successfully detects the Orange service. My sim is O2 pay and go, whilst his is Orange contract. Should the fact that mine is a pay and go sim and his is a contract sim make a difference to getting an unlocked phone receive a signal?
Guest scott2eyes Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I wouldn't think so. My semi-educated guess is that it's to do with the fact that O2 (and Vodafone) use GSM900- a different type of signal to Orange (and T-Mobile) which use GSM1800- maybe AT&T only use the GSM900 signal?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 Unfortunately correct the AT&T mpx200 has the 900 band disabled :D Some claim that flashing the rom unlocks the 900 band, but this is not 100% and may be down to release models at the time asw only a few claim it works.
Guest coolstream Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 Thanks for your replies, guys. I forgot to add that the mpx has already been flashed and now has the option to manually select any of the bands or to even auto select. I'd love to test your theories, but unfortunately my friend has the phone with him for a few days. When he returns with it, I'll check that I have the correct setting on the phone. I'll also check which band he is using on his own SPVe200, then I'll try my O2 sim in his phone and see if we can replicate the problem which will hopefully confirm your theories. I'll post the results as soon as I can. I guess it would be safe to assume that an Orange pay as you go sim would be good in my mpx200, since his Orange sim works?
Guest Sasuke Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 i have a MPx200 with a payg O2 simcard, flashed with the generic rom. works fine.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 As I said above flashing does not work for everyone, even though you can now see 900 band in the list does not mean that it will work unfortunately :D
Guest coolstream Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Just a thought... Are ppl using different roms to flash the phone, or is it the phone versions themselves that is causing the problem? And if it is the rom version, would it be possible to reflash the phone? I'd be willing to try if someone could suggest a known 'good' rom.
