Guest Rusty Bullet Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 I have a first generation SPV. A relative who upgraded and changed networks gave this phone to me. I unlocked the phone so that I could use it with my Vodafone PAYG SIM and everything was fine for a few months. One day, when trying to get my balance, I heard 3 pips and the call was dropped. I thought my call credit had run out so I tried to top it up, however I was unable to contact the ‘Top-up Line’. Every time I tried to call someone, the phone gave 3 pips and dropped the call. I was able to receive calls as usual and I could send and receive SMS. Recently, the phone started working again, but sadly this only lasted a week or so before the phone developed the same problem again. I have read that this could be because the phone has been blacklisted. I find this strange if it is true, as it started to work after failing, and my relative has not listed the phone as missing (or stolen). It also works in every other way (including SMS) except when trying to make a call. Could anyone shed a light on what might be happening? Is it possible to find out if a handset is blacklisted? Yours in advance Karl
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Welcome to the site :D The easiest way to find out if your phone is blocked is to give your network provider a call and ask them.As you can use SMS it does sound like the phone has been blocked.
Guest Rusty Bullet Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Thanks, Is there a connection between SMS working and not being able to make calls? It is also odd that the phone started to work for a while before 'braking' again.
Guest martin Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 If a phone is blacklisted it will prevent both originating AND terminating voice calls so if you can receive calls the IMIE is not barred. I suspect you are accidently switching to line2 for outgoing calls (line shows as 1 or 2 next to battery meter). To switch lines back either press and hold # or go to Settings-Telephony-Call options :D
Guest Rusty Bullet Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Thanks for that I've never read the manual and I didn't know about this 'feature' , this has just saved me getting another phone, yee ha! Thank you all for your help, I like recording my own ring tones, not the rip-offs you get with regular phones (not withstanding all the other great features you get with this phone). Best regards Karl
