Guest robt Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Can anyone help? I have an mpx200 on Vodafone UK. Yesterday I rang to have GPRS enabled, went to the www.hellomoto.com site and had the required settings sent to my phone. This morning, I switched the phone off and on and the "G" appeared on the top line of the home screen. However, so far I havent been able to connect at all. Each time I try, the phone shows the dialling dialogue, the small g appears on the top line, then after the default 4 attempts I ge the following message "Error: Unable to connect. Verify you have network coverage and try again" Same result each time. Have full bars on network logo. Is it possible that despite the fact that the G has appeared that Vodafone still have to make some changes on my line? Im a bit surprised as the user names and passwords are all generic. I have been able to browse the web via passthrough to my desktop and through a dial up to my normal ISP, Pipex. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Ps I have checked the seetings against the post in the setting repository and all appears the same.
Guest martin Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Is it contract or prepaid because the setup is different.
Guest robt Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Its a contract - I have checked through the settings
Guest martin Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Hmmm, you shouldn't get a 'unable to connect' :? Try deleting ALL existing dial-up, proxy and GPRS connections. Create a single GPRS connection Description: Vodafone Net Connects to: The Internet Access point: internet User name: web Password: web Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0 Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0 IP address: (blank) In data connEctions make 'Internet connection: Vodafone Net'. Goto Internet Explorer, Menu-Options-Connections, UNTICK 'auto detect settings' and make 'Select Network: The Internet'. Try and connect to www.google.com If you get 'Unable to connect' with the above then change the Access Point from internet to wap.vodafone.co.uk and try www.google.com again. If you get page not found then that's OK as long as you can connect i.e small G stays active.
Guest robt Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Thanks a lot, I shall try your suggestion later tonight. I will report back on success (or lack of!) Regards
Guest robt Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 martin I have gone through the procedure outlined and Im afraid to say the result was the same as before. I am sure the settings are correct so I am going to have to asume for the moment that the reason I cant connect is at the Vodafone end. By lunchtime tomorrow, they will have had the 48 hours they suggested it might take to enable (despite the G on the home screen.) I will report back tomorrow, thanks for your help in the meantime.
Guest robt Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Hi Folks I have the answer to my own question, and it may help others. The bottom line is that the fault was with Vodafone. I rang them in total 5 times to check that full web access had been enabled on my phone. The fifth person I spoke to finally seemed to know what he was talking about, did something on his screen and said "Try it now". Intenet access burst into life straight away! Moral of the story, most of the people in Vodafone UK CS dont know what they are doing and can only read an answer to a question from a piece of paper! Thanks Martin for your assistance, and for the settings that allowed me to get going in the first place. Rob - Southampton
