Guest Pagemakers Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 This topic has been touched on before but I don't think the bug has been resolved. Email and sms messages generate mpb files in storage/windows/messaging. When you delete your emails the mpb files should get deleted as well but they don't. Agreed most files are small but they can grow to thousands over a period of time. I used Sprite Backup to restore my phone recently and it took 80 minutes just to restore and patch the mpb files alone. Without them the restore takes about 5 minutes! I think the problem may be 2003 OS specific. Is there a fix. Are Orange/MS aware of this bug? It it evident in 2003SE? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Sorry Page, but why not just empty the folder before doing the Sprite backup ? Kudos to you for raising the issue & keeping this topic alive, but there doesn't seem to be a fix so far, and I wonder if those files are meant to be there for some (3rd party security ?) reason... As with the AppMgr folder it just seems that you may as well sort it yourself. Hope you get a better reply mate, but you know what I mean
Guest Pagemakers Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Hmm. I guess you're right. Just hope it's been fixed in second edition. We shouldn't have to keep manually emptying it. I only knew it existed after I made my backups and wondered why the restore was taking so long. Dare I ask what the problem is with the App Man folder . . . Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 All the .tmp files in their folders don't get deleted from the AppMgr folder when you uninstall stuff. Again they don't take up much space themselves, but if you don't tidy them up... Are these just issues that programmers forget about or is there a reason for keeping them there ? Shame there aren't some MS MVPs around here to give us a definitive answer  Just becuase I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't leaving stuff in there to keep track of my activities
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 I can see what i can find out. I don't have a WM2003 device though so i've not have the issue myself. The tmp "bug" occurs on my Tanager too.
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Thanks Mono. I was hoping the MVP-bait would work  (with respect) Just wondered if it was a general MS OS thing.
Guest Pagemakers Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 If you use email on your phone as much as I do there are thousands of these bloody rogue files clogging up your phone. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 I do too and i have just found them (slightly different location on 2002) :D Disco: i had read the thread when it was originally posted and was debating whether or not to reply :D In the end it's not a ~massive~ hassle and it's usually great fun trying to get these kind of things reported to the right people...
Guest Pagemakers Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Nearly a year on.....Was there ever a fix for these blasted mpd files? Is it safe to delete them from storage/windows/messaging?
Guest Disco Stu Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 I tend to clear the folder on a weekly basis and have never had any problems. I delete all texts & emails after reading them anyway so have no use for the mpb files.
