Hey folks, i've been using modaco to get all my SPV/smartphone info, i haven't been here in a while and there is just too much information!!! hehe :D

I'm sorry if it's been asked a million times, i've been searching but could find an answer to my question.

Is it possible (cracked versions or something) to get smartphone 2003 on my original SPV? I just downloaded the lastest update for the E200 and if i'm correct the E200 runs SmartPhone 2003.

When i plug in my SPV and start the flash proggie it says:

Your SPV E200 software is about to be updated from

Device ROM version: 1.6.1.10

to

Device ROM version: 2.6.1.3

Please click update to continue.

:D I would expect orange build in some sort of check to make sure the wrong ROM versions isn't flashed into your phone. But it looks like i can just click update. Will this FUBAR my phone?!

Thanks guys and sorry once again if this has been talked about over and over again.

Sorry, just noticed the 'Device Specific' section. I don't think that section was there the last time i visited. :D

Found some answers there. Altough i still don't know what would happen if i click 'update' :D

im not an expert on such things (there are plenty who are tho) but for starters, the original spv and spvE100 doesnt enough memory to support 2003 really. Although it can be done, the phone would be REALLY slow.

Next thing is that im pretty sure you cant update your spv with the e200 update even if you wanted to. Im not sure what would happen, but there is no point trying cos of what i already mentioned.

*awaits a more technical answer from someone who knows all about updates/roms/etc*

Welcome to modaco btw :D

Yep that's about right. The E200 has twice the memory of the original SPV's and were there enough space on the SPV's memory to flash over Orange's 2003 build (which i don't think there ~quite~ is), it would more than likely run dog slow.

Also afaik the E200 update only flashes certain sections of the ROM (of which there are many, all making up the OS and hardware interface), so you'd end up with a 2002/2003 hybrid that certainly WOULDN'T work (kinda like trying to breed a monley with a horse...). The update itself should eventually realise it's the wrong device, although i've not actaully tried myself so i don't know :D

Oke thanks for that guys.

Although i did see a wmv video stream of a SPV running SP2003 and yes it did show 2.26MB free memory, but still it ran quite fast and it loaded jawbreaker (i think) fast too.

Pretty much all i run on my phone is MSN and once in a while watch a movie. I don't have any other software running in the back ground.

So isn't it possible to just give it a test run? :D

the thing your talking about was done using a developer rom or something similar, it was not accoplished by using the e200 update. I dont know where u can get the rom etc, if you do get it somehow, then you need to make sure you can go back to 2002 if the 2003 rom is very slow and unusable...im not sure if such a downgrade is possible...you dont want to end up with a ruined phone!

Well i read that some folks (from thailand if i remember correctly) did flash to 2003, but did flash back again because it was too slow.

So i guess it is possible to go back again.

But still i'd like to give 2003 a try if i can. Very likely that i'll go back to 2002 again too. But for the same reason i overclock my computer. It's not like i'll notice the difference between 150FPS and 200FPS. :D

I overclock because i can, i'd like to run 2003 just once 'if i can'. :D

Like i said above, its very likely that you'll end up with an expensive paperweight if you try to run the E200 update on your SPV, sorry!

Hehe, i'm NOT going to try the E200 update.

Monolithix first explanation makes perfect sence to me, so that's probably not the way to do it. :D

I was just hoping for a confirmation that a SPV/E100 'modded' ROM has been going around maybe a while ago. I know it would be illeagal to post links to it here. But i would probably be able to find it on eway or another IF such a ROM has been 'released'. (By that Thai guy for instance)

Orange called me last week, 'with some special offers' ,since my 1 year contract is almost over and i'm using my phone for over 65euro a month, so they like to keep me as a client. Anyway, i guess a new toy will be heading my way soon, so maybe i'll take some more risks with this SPV when i got the new stuff. :D

p.s. It's sickening how little the people in the Orange Shop know about their own phones.

Q: Does the E200 run SP2003?

A: No

Q: Will there be an update to flash it to SP2003?

A: No, it's not possible to remove the software and flash it to a new versions. (This is really what the guy said)

Q: What about the new SPV the C500?

A: I haven't heard anything about it, so that will not be available for a very long time and i don't expect it to since we just got the new SPV M1000. (Which is a 'big' PDA so shouldn't even be compared to the C500. dumbass)

Q: Does the M1000 run Windows 2003?

A: I don't think so, just like the others 2002.

Then i ask for some spec of the M1000 and all he can give me is a page from the weekly/monthly folder where it says the M1000 has 128MB and weighs 190gram. Just the info i was looking for. Ow yeah and it also says on that single page he handed me that the M1000 does run Windows Pocket PC Phone edition 2003. Thats your work you ass! Do some research damnit!!!

While i'm at it, on almost every internet GSM shop it's cheaper to just cancel my contract and start a new one with 'keep of number' then to just prolong my contract with another year. How wrong is that.

Ow and while i'm at it, i tried to call somebody from orange to ask about offers they could do me on phones if i prolonged my contract another year. So i called 1200 for Orange clients. You get a computer menu with just 4 options and non of the options even came close to what i wanted to know. Then there was another number for the 'authoritydesk' (if i translate it from dutch) and the number for that was 1203. I GET THE SAME FREAKIN MENU!!! So i called a number for NON-clients and ofcource you'll get somebody on the phone that way! Their current clients can go to hell, but new clients are very welcome. She tells me to call 1200 again and press 1 twice. I'll get somebody on the phone that way that should be able to help me. Calling 1200 and pressing 1 twice would mean my phone is stolen! Sjees! Ow and BTW they could help me, they told me to go to the Orange Shop for good personal advice. ](*,)

Phew, good to get that off my chest. Sorry for the sheet load of you know what, but i was quite pissed yesterday after all that hassle and lack of freakin info. :D Thanks for listening

The 2003 running on the SPV you have seen is the beta version of 2003, it is not fully working and when the phone is

being updated it wrewrites evey thing not just the bootloader

and IPSM etc.

Basically it's a complete new image of the phone where as the E200 update is just that an update only.
